As questionable as it may sound, people do fall for the villain more than the hero, and the novel series ‘I’m in Love with the Villainess’ is one such tale.
Despite being an isekai set in an otome game, the novel has a huge fandom, and the credit for that goes to the lead couple being in a yuri romance. Considering how the otaku community is, this single factor overweighs the isekai element.
Given its popularity, it was only a matter of time till the series received an anime.
GL Bunko has revealed that Inori’s novel series, ‘I’m in Love with the Villainess,’ is slated to receive an anime adaptation in 2023.
The promo video for the anime previews how Oohashi Rei, an ordinary office worker, wakes up as the protagonist of her favorite otome game. Soon after getting reincarnated, Rei by her favorite character and the game’s villainess, Claire Francois.
From here on begins their not-so-romantic romance story of Rei and Claire, much to the chagrin of the game’s male leads.
Besides the trailer, the franchise has also revealed a key visual featuring Rei and Clare. The announcement also shares that Yu Serizawa is playing Rei, and Karin Nanami is voicing Claire.
Although Claire constantly bullies Rei, the protagonist doesn’t stop pursuing the villainess and often makes her flustered. Rei is determined to make Claire fall in love with her, which may seem impossible, but it isn’t.
Moreover, Claire is the kind of girl who doesn’t express her feelings and copes with them by bullying others. Rei, being in love with her, isn’t a bit fazed by the ill-treatment and rather falls for the antagonist even more.

I’m in Love with the Villainess (Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijō) is a yuri isekai light novel series written by Inori and illustrated by Hanagata. It began serialization in January 2018, received a manga adaptation in June 2020, and is slated for a TV anime in 2023.
