Ubisoft Bordeaux pulled out all the stops with the limited budget and workforce to ensure they returned the original Assassin’s Creed experience to the fans, as promised.
Ubisoft Bordeaux had a little easter egg for the fans right towards the beginning of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, where the players, upon conversing with fellow assassins, hear the name of a poison that the legendary assassin Iltani used.
Iltani was first mentioned in Assassin’s Creed II as the famous assassin who poisoned Alexander the Great. Her story was expanded into AC: Initiates and AC Chronicles: India.
While Iltani’s history has not been explored in depth in the Assassin’s Creed gaming franchise, there have been mentions of her.
Iltani was the legendary assassin who assassinated Alexander the Great. She was a part of the Babylonian Brotherhood and excelled in the art of poisoning.
Her quest to kill Alexander the Great began when he conquered Persia with the help of the Staff of Eden provided by the Order of the Ancients. With the help of a renowned Achaemenid Alchemist, she acquired a poison that helped her kill Alexander.
Throughout her quest, she traveled across places like India and Herat in modern-day Afghanistan. She left secret messages in these places that can be decoded through the Eagle Vision.
In her final message, she left behind the recipe for the poison that she would use to kill Alexander the Great. This was in hopes that the formula would serve the Brotherhood even if the assassination failed.
However, she successfully poisoned Alexander in the palace of Nebuchadnezzar II and became immortal in the history of the Assassins.
These tiny little reminders that the developers have not forgotten where the Assassin’s Creed franchise indeed hails from are being lauded by the franchise’s veterans and fans who noticed it. Players can experience true-stealth-based gameplay set in 9th-Century Baghdad in AC: Mirage.
About Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth primary installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. While its historical timeframe precedes that of Valhalla, its modern-day framing story succeeds Valhalla’s own.
Set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age—in particular during the Anarchy at Samarra—the story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla), a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty against the Order of the Ancients,[b] who desire peace through control. The main narrative focuses on Basim’s internal struggle between his duties as a Hidden One and his desire to uncover his mysterious past.
