Illustrator loundraw, the name that hints at the hidden talent in the anime industry, will now make his directorial debut. A short anime film, “Summer Ghost,” will announce the illustrator’s genius to the whole world.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that loundraw is just an illustrator as he is serving as a one-man-army for his upcoming project. Every part of the short film has been made and supervised by him! It is truly rare to see such raw passion of a person.
Summer Ghost is a short theatrical anime film that is directed by illustrator loundraw. The film will be released in Japan within 2021, and a new visual has been released for it.
The illustration shows the upcoming film’s main characters, Tomoya Sugisaki, Aoi Harukawa, and Ryo Kobayashi. All of them seem to be high school students and the film might be a coming-of-age film.
The character designs of the protagonists have also been revealed.
A concept video was also released in cooperation with Z-Kai, an anime producer. The video is named “The Closest Distant Star”, and it features Kaori, a highschool student who dreams of discovering a new star.
Kaori grew up looking forward to her dream, but at one point, everything seemed to be fading away. Ryo, Tomoya, and Aoi make a small cameo in the short concept movie. The video is accompanied by the theme song “Koko ni Iru yo”, performed by Junko Iwase.
The concept design of the Josee, The Tiger and the Fish anime is also by loundraw. Flat Studio recently revealed an original anime concept movie, “Life of Falling”.
The theme of the multimedia work, Project Common, is “to express the true loundraw.” Since it is the directorial debut of loundraw, the project will reflect on his style to find steady ground in the anime industry.
loundraw has also created the Flat Studio in January 2019, which is contributing to the upcoming project. His previous works include original character designs and cover designs for the I Want to Eat Your Pancreas novel. He has also designed the characters of the Tsukigakirei anime series.
The promising visual and concept movie shows the hard work that loundraw has put into his project for years. Being the all-in-all in an anime is not easy, and I am looking forward to the illustrator pulling it off.
