Josei Manga Ikoku Nikki Anime Adaptation Announced

In a world brimming with the shonen and shoujo genres, a good josei is hard to come by. Ikoku Nikki (Diary of a Strange Land) by Tomoko Yamashita is one of the rare masterpieces getting an anime adaptation, much to the delight of the fans.

Yamashita began publishing the manga in June 2017 in Shodensha’s Feel Young magazine and continued until June 2023. The manga was compiled into eleven tankōbon volumes and shipped in August 2023. Ikoku Nikki has been nominated for several awards and prizes.

New Teaser Trailer

After the anime adaptation announcement was made on the anime team’s official Twitter, the teaser trailer for the upcoming season was also released by Pony Canyon. Watch the trailer here:

Alongside the new trailer preview, the key visual of the new series was also released. The text in the upper left corner of the visual reads, “[She] sleeps in the corner of the throne of a queen of a different country.”

More on the New Ikoku Nikki Adaptation

Pony Canyon announced the anime adaptation of Tomoko Yamashita’s manga Ikoku Nikki (Diary of a Strange Land) on May 3, 2024. The main staff, teaser visual, and teaser trailer of the anime were also revealed.

Ikoku Nikki is being directed by Miyuki Ooshiro (Durarara!!x2 and To Your Eternity) at the animation studio Shuka. Kohei Kiyasu (Run with the Wind) is in charge of the script writing, with Kensuke Ushio (Chainsaw Man and A Silent Voice) on the music. The characters are designed by Kenji Hayama (Tiger and Bunny).

Not only is the manga getting an anime adaptation, but a live-action film adaptation is also set to premiere in Japanese theatres on June 7, 2024. With two new adaptations in the making, Ikoku Nikki readers are in for a double treat.

About Ikoku Nikki

The manga centers around a 35-year-old novelist Makio Kōdai, and her 15-year-old niece Asa, who live together under one roof. Makio took Asa in on a sudden impulse after Asa’s parents passed away. The next day, Makio returns to her senses and remembers that she does not do well in the company of other people. So begins their daily life, as Makio attempts to acclimate to a roommate, while Asa attempts to get used to an adult who never acts like one.
