James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad introduced a lot of bad (good) guys to the DCEU, rebranding it to Task Force X and killing a bunch of people like flies in the process. Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba, is the team’s leader and has a backstory that intrigued many people.
You know the moment when Amanda Waller casually mentions the reason Robert DuBois is in jail like it’s no big deal? As it turns out, DuBois is in Belle Reve for putting Superman in the ICU using a kryptonite bullet.
That’s a massive feat for a normal human being, so it’s obvious that Elba would brag about almost killing the strong being in the DCEU. So, in a new interview with Desus And Mero, here’s what Elba had to say about the accomplishment,
Bloodsport is one of those characters that’s in the vault for DC. Basically, he’s famous for putting Superman in the hospital, and he’s in jail for it when you meet him in the movie. Call me sick, but I’m kind of proud of that.
I love Superman, by the way. But, trust me, anytime I can talk about that, I will. Look, this movie is a reinvention from Suicide Squad, which was a good movie also. But, this movie is James Gunn’s take on the new Suicide Squad. It’s quite fresh, it’s very risqué. Very adult, you know what I mean.
Idris Elba
With Peacemaker getting his own series, when asked about Bloodsport’s future in the DCEU, Elba said he’d like to explore the confrontation with Superman going forward. While talking to Entertainment Tonight, Elba said he wants to see the incident that put him behind bars.
It wouldn’t be next, it would be what came before. I would be really interested to see why he went to jail. Why did he shoot Superman? I would love to see that narrative come alive.
Idris Elba
Elba had almost gotten his wish in a way as James Gunn has previously revealed that he originally wanted the Man of Steel to fight Task Force X. In an interview with Filmstarts, Gunn said the squad would’ve fought against an out of control Superman.
When I started writing The Suicide Squad, one idea was that they would fight Superman. The Suicide Squad has to catch Superman for some reason. That was all, just a vague idea. It is out of control, or someone is controlling it. And then this group of lousy super-villains has to face the most powerful hero in the world. I like this idea and if DC does this sequel, then please not without me.
James Gunn
Superman rumors have been creating a lot of buzz among fans lately as he’s rumored to be in The Flash film, as well as Dwayne Johnson expressing his wish to have Black Adam fight Superman.
(Warner Bros., please renew Henry Cavill’s contract, he’s the perfect Kal El.)
The Suicide Squad is now out in theaters and as well as on HBO Max.
