Idris Elba Shares On-Set Photos As Luther Movie Begins Filming

Filming on the upcoming Luther film has officially begun.

Idris Elba has shared on-set photos, giving fans of the series something to look forward to. The actor played the titular role in all five seasons of the BBC series, so it would only be right for him to return for the Netflix film.

Elba posted a picture of a clapperboard, dated ‘October 27’ – possibly the day he began filming. The clapperboard also had the names of director Jamie Payne and DoP Tom Stern on it.

Another picture showed a glimpse of his character’s clothing, in grey, woolen coat, and a red tie.

The actor captioned the picture, “Oi……I’m back!” with the post’s location marked as ‘on set.’ With scarce plot details revealed so far, let’s hope Elba gives us some easter eggs or hints about the film in future posts.

Back in 2020, Elba talked to Digital Spy about his ambitions for the film,

With a film, the sky is the limit. Obviously, you can be a little bit more bold in the storylines, maybe international, a little bit sort of up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.

In another interview with LADbible, Elba had said,

When you scale a movie up, you have to give it size – that means taking it into other territories, internationally, but I still think it will feel like the ‘Gotham City’ in London. But obviously, on a bigger international scale, it could take us anywhere.

Series creator Neil Cross is also the one behind the film’s script. Alongside Elba, Luther will also star Andy Serkis and Cynthia Erivo as John Luther’s nemesis.

Original series producer, the BBC, is producing the movie with Netflix, who will also be distributing the film.

Luther doesn’t have a release date yet, but all five seasons of the series are available for streaming on Netflix.
