Unlisted YouTube Video Shows Scrat Finally Eating His Beloved Acorn

For the past two decades, a major sub-plot that remained consistent in the Ice Age franchise was the squirrel, Scrat, never being able to eat his precious acorn.

No matter the struggles he faced to get the tree nut, the universe (or sometimes space) would always have the last say and pose a hurdle.

But in sudden news, a video going viral shows Scrat finally eating the acorn. The caption and title of the video make it seem like a farewell gift from Blue Sky Studios, the original animation creator of the Ice Age franchise.

The video, titled The End, is an unlisted YouTube video uploaded by a channel called Finale. The caption reads:

“In the final days of Blue Sky Studios, a small team of artists came together to do one final shot. This shot is a farewell, a send-off on our own terms.”

In it, Scrat sees the acorn, hurries to it, and all confused, looks here and there for any possible interruption. When he receives none, he starts eating it, stopping once to check. He eats the entire nut and moves on (presumably) to the next with a smile.

The End

Blue Sky Studios is the original animation studio behind the Ice Age franchise. The company released Ice Age in 2002, after which the film grew into a franchise spanning 13 movies and multiple specials.

Blue Sky Studios, built-in 1987, decided to shut down completely in February last year due to economic struggles.

Though not yet confirmed to be official, the unlisted video seems to be a farewell gift from the original animators to the fans who loved the squirrel and his antics for decades.

20th Century Fox had acquired the animation company years ago. Disney then acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, leaving many to believe that the animation company would stay under them. However, that wasn’t the case.

Even after shutting down, the animators worked on certain projects. Nimona, an LGTQ+ friendly movie, was one of the projects they were working on (which Disney+ scrapped but Netflix picked up).

Another project was Ice Age: Scrat Tales, which recently premiered on Disney+.

Scrat finally eating the acorn does feel like a bittersweet end to a two-decade struggle. Guess we’ll now wait to see a new side to the squirrel in his solo new show on Disney+.

About Ice Age

Ice Age is a animated movie franchise originally created by Blue Sky Studios. The first movie, titled only Ice Age, released two decades ago in 2002.

The franchise’s story features on mammals living through the Paleolithic ice age. Since its release, multiple movies and short films have been released about Ice Age. The popularity even drove the creators and production houses to create video games and TV series on them.

In latest news, a spin-off movie, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild was released on Disney+ in January 2022. It was the first installment in the franchise without Blue Sky Studios.
