Let’s discuss this sub-erotic comedy in more detail.

2. Theory Section

Dogeza has one of the tropes liked by fans in the ecchi community.

Let’s get into this article to see what influences the making of ‘Dogeza de Tanondemita.’

I. Popularity of the Franchise

Originally, Funatsu published the series as a webcomic on Twitter in 2017, as a side hobby.

Funatsu sold two print collections of the series at Comic Market. Later, Kadokawa Shoten published his first compiled tankobon volume in 2018.

A two-part novel adapted from the manga was written by Yagi Honjo and illustrated by Funatsu. Though the series is adult-oriented, the novels were adapted for the general audience.

An erotic live-action adaptation was released in 2018, featuring Yui Hatano and Hibiki Otsuki.

After the anime announcement, Funatsu posted an illustration to celebrate the news.

The web serialization is very popular on twitter, so how is the fandom taking the anime adaptation news?

II. Fan Reactions

‘When the going gets tough, the tough get down on their knees and grovel.’ Doge Suwaru wants to see various things related to girls, and his last resort is the dogeza.

A dogeza is a down on the floor, full-body bow, complete with the forehead touching the ground.

It is often used in anime as a comedic gag as a way to apologize. But in Dogeza de Tanondemita, it is used as a way to get ‘other things.’

Many male fans consider this series as a dream come true for a ‘simp.’ A simp is defined as an overly desperate guy for women, who will do anything to gain their favor.

Other fans who know that the manga is a soft-erotica describe reading it as, ‘Eating a large tub of ice-cream alone, in one go. It is bad for you, but you do it and then regret it.’

It is different from other ecchi anime in the way it directly focuses on the sexual part of the series. There have been many anime over the time that usually just hint at it.

The fans are waiting eagerly for the website to release more information regarding the anime adaptation.

So, then what is the story about?

3. Plot

The story follows Doge Suwaru, a passionate young man who wants to learn about romancing women.

Suwaru stumbles onto what he considers a fool-proof strategy for winning young ladies’ affections: Performing a ‘dogeza.’

Dogeza is an extremely formal bow that is basically groveling before others. Intent on having his lewd requests heard, he endures through the groveling.

The heroines are often taken aback, embarrassed, and confused by his sudden action. Is anything impossible before dogeza?!

Will the girls show him their risqué side?!

Let’s see a quick teaser of the upcoming show.

4. Visuals & Trailers

The website for the anime posted a teaser visual, and unveiled the main cast and female character designs.

The character design of Doge Suwaru, the male lead, will be uploaded by the website within some time.

The website reports that the anime will be composed of shorts.

A short trailer was revealed by the team.

The one-and-a-half minute trailer begins with Dogeza narrating that if a girl is a mystery, then the truth is hidden beneath her clothes.

Let’s look into the animation production of the show.

5. Music and Animation

I. Animation Quality

It has yet not been revealed which animation studio will be taking up the task of animating this series of shorts.

The anime seems to be focused on characters and their animation more.

Since it won’t have any major animation scenes like fight choreographies, a studio that focuses on minor details should be the one.

II. Theme Songs

The short anime’s opening theme song, titled “DOGEZA! Do get that!” is performed by four of the cast members: Yui Ogura, Saika Kitamori, Akane Kaida, and Tomokazu Sugita.

Let’s see how the fans are reacting to the news of the anime adaptations.

6. Fan Expectations

There is one question that has got many fans dumbfounded. How would they turn Dogeza, a webcomic, into an anime?

The production team’s answer was that the sexual comedy would come in the form of shorts with a duration of 10-15 minutes per episode, if not less.

It’s probably going to be like IyaPan.

IyaPan is very similar to Dogeza; both have the same premise of asking girls to reveal themselves and fall under the ecchi category.

Dogeza doesn’t have a ‘main plot’ as such, just new girls come every chapter, and we get to see her reaction.

It’s a traditional low effort anime formula where Fanservice = Money. But fans wonder if the anime could attempt at a plot, but it looks bleak.

The entire fandom is in an uproar to hear that Sugita would voice Doge! Many accept that the voice cast was perfect for the male lead.

There a quite a few fans who wonder about the censorship of this short series anime. Would they even get to enjoy it as much as the manga?
