The Patient Episode 7 Ending Explained: Alan Loses Hope of His Rescue

Hulu exclusive, The Patient, is nearing its end. Even by the end of episode 7, Alan’s chances of escaping death look bleak.

Episode 7 ends with a brutal conclusion, with his hope of being rescued shattered, and also unbeknownst to him, he may soon be replaced as Sam’s therapist.

The episode opens with Alan discussing with Charlie how his plan is a probability of 50/50 at best. Either the police could find Elias’ body and his note in his mouth and rescue him, or Sam could accidentally discover the message and end Alan’s life in a fit of rage.

Meanwhile, Charlie asks him to focus on his dream and how it connects to Ezra and his wife’s death.

When Alan rebukes Sam’s request to talk to him, Sam goes on a quest to hunt down his school counselor. When his counselor shows interest in being his therapist, Sam takes his number in hopes of replacing Alan and ending these futile therapy sessions with Dr. Strauss.

In an empathetic moment, Sam prints out the Kaddish for Alan. As he is commending Sam for his first step towards healing, he realizes that Sam has not placed Elias’ body somewhere it could be found, thus all his hopes expire.

While he reads the Kaddish, he is torn between the grief for his dead wife and the fear of his imminent death.

Will Alan be able to make his escape? Will he get the chance to mend his relationship with his son after his wife’s death?

The Patient will return with Episode 8 on October 11, 2022, on Hulu.

Therapist Dr. Strauss is kidnapped and imprisoned by his patient Sam who needs him to find a therapeutical solution to help him stop his homicidal tendencies.
