How I Met Your Father will be here in just two months! The cast made a special video announcing that the show will premiere on January 18.
The cherry on top was using one of How I Met Your Mother’s iconic dialogue, “Wait for it….” teasing fans about the upcoming release date.
The video features the main cast: Hilary Duff, Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Suraj Sharma, who will be playing Sophie, Jesse, Valentina, Charlie, Ellen, and Sid, respectively.
This month, it has also been announced that Kate Cattrall will play the older version of Duff’s Sophie. It is expected that she will also narrate the series, telling stories of her younger self and friends to her son.
As a spin-off, I wonder if the series will have other callbacks to HIMYM. While some may be appropriate for fanservice, I think it would be better if How I Met Your Father establishes its own set of witty, quintessential quirks.
It would definitely give it more backbone than having to rely on HIMYM’s success.
We can already see a few changes made to the show when it comes to the diverse cast and setting. As lead character Sophie’s tale begins in 2021, the show can bank on a lot of technological and cultural changes from its predecessor.
(Then again, Barney did manage to have a rollercoaster of a love life even without Tinder!)
Part of HIMYM’s charm and popularity was thanks to its strong, eclectic characters. I can’t wait to see what kind of people we meet in How I Met Your Father. Fingers crossed that we get a trailer revealing this very soon!
Production for the show started only this September, and it seems to have had a quick turnaround since the premiere is scheduled quite soon.
All ten episodes of How I Met Your Father will be released on Hulu starting January 18. Save the date!
About How I Met Your Father
How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is a spinoff series of the incredibly successful CBS show, How I Met Your Mother. The original show ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, quickly making its mark with a dedicated cult-like fanbase.
HIMYF was announced to start production in April 2021 with the Lizzy McGuire star Hilary Duff playing the lead called Sophie, narrating her journey to her children in the future.
The show’s flashbacks will start from Sophie and her close friends navigating love, life and struggles in the modern era of dating, paying bills and more, in 2021.
Created by writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of This Is Us fame and directed by the original show’s director, Pamela Fryman, the first season of HIMYF is revealed to have 10 episodes. No further details have yet been released.
