Hulu has released the first teaser for its upcoming comedy series, Only Murders in the Building, which follows cast members Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez joining hands to solve a crime.
With Martin serving as one of the creators himself alongside John Hoffman, the show is slated to premiere on the streaming service on August 31.
Now, ahead of its forthcoming release, Hulu debuted the teaser on YouTube, which sees the Hollywood trio as their respective characters Charles, Oliver, and Mabel question how well they know their neighbors after a murder occurs in their building.
When asked by a police officer, the three hesitate with answers regarding their next-door resident, thus setting up the main scenario of the series.
Not only does the clip promise an interesting plot, but it also includes twists in the story and witty repartee between Martin and Short.
As the true-crime-obsessed strangers come together to find the perpetrator of their neighbors’ murder, will they end up discovering more than they bargained for?
The ten-episode series was announced in January of last year, with Gomez, Short, and Dan Fogelman among the many producers. Filming began in New York City in December and wrapped up by April.
The show will also star Aaron Dominguez, Amy Ryan, and Nathan Lane in a recurring role. During an interview with Variety in September, Gomez stated that the show could “bring a lot of joy to people.”
She also spoke about her co-stars and recounted Martin and Short’s infamous relationship as comedians.
“I was on a Zoom with Steve and Marty, and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to get any work done because they are just so quick in their back-and-forth.'”
The synopsis for Only Murders in the Building reads:
“From the minds of Steve Martin, Dan Fogelman and John Hoffman comes a comedic murder-mystery series for the ages. Only Murders in the Building follows three strangers (Martin, Short, and Gomez) who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one.
When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth.
As they record a podcast of their own to document the case, the three unravel the complex secrets of the building which stretch back years.
Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another. Soon, the endangered trio comes to realize the killer might be living amongst them as they race to decipher the mounting clues before it’s too late.”

Only Murders in the Building is an American crime-comedy television series created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman. Season 1 of the series premiered in August 2021, and season 2 was released on 28th June 2022.
