Jujutsu Kaisen fans are in a frenzy this week. What appeared to be a return of Gojo Satoru turned out to be Yuta inhabiting his sensei’s body, much to Sukuna’s surprise. How did he manage this unexpected move? To understand this, we need to dive first into Yuta’s abilities.
What is Yuta’s Cursed Technique?
Yuta’s Cursed Technique is “COPY.” In other words, when with Rika, he can copy other cursed techniques and use them when necessary. He can also use these copied abilities in quick succession multiple times.
This is one of the most overpowered abilities in Jujutsu Kaisen, making Yuta unstoppable. It is very similar to All For One from My Hero Academia.
We might think his copied techniques are less powerful than the original user’s. Well, it’s quite the opposite. Yuta is so powerful that he can use some techniques better than the original users.
One example is Toge Inumaki’s cursed speech, which Yuta copied and didn’t receive any damage after using it, unlike Toge. The power was even stronger as it wiped off Geto’s army of curses in Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
What Are The Requirements For Copying a Technique?
The series doesn’t explicitly state a requirement, but a popular fan theory suggests that Yuta or Rika must consume a part of the user to access their powers. This part could be substantial or even a small strand of their DNA. Once these conditions are met, whether on a large or small scale, Yuta will gain access to their abilities.
In the Culling Game arc, Yuta demonstrated this by mimicking Takako Uro’s Sky Manipulation power. Rika consuming one of her arms granted Yuta access to this ability. With it, he struck Ryu Ishigori with a fatal blow, almost as if he had always possessed this power.
How Did Yuta Manage to Take Over Gojo’s Body?
Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261 proved another popular fan theory related to Yuta. The fan theory stated that Yuta was supposed to inherit Gojo’s six eyes because they were related.
Chapter 261 confirmed that Yuta is a descendant of the ‘Fujiwara’ bloodline, and Gojo suggested that he is of ‘Sugawara’ descent, making them distant relatives.
Sugawara is an ancestor of Gojo and Yuta from many centuries ago and was heralded as one of the Big Three Vengeful Spirits. These spirits are the ancestors of the three big families of the Jujutsu world, including the Gojo, Zen’in, and Kamo.
This explains why Yuta is best suited to inherit Gojo’s body: He is the second strongest after his sensei.
Things got more interesting when spoilers revealed that Rika consumed Kenjaku’s head. Yes, you heard that right. Yuta utilized his COPY Technique on Kenjaku and mastered the cursed technique that takes over other dead bodies. Using Kenjaku’s ability, Yuta exchanged bodies with Gojo Satoru with the assistance of Shoko and Amai.
This was quite a surprise from Gege, and it disappointed many fans. But if you connect all the pieces, the mangaka’s decision made sense. After all, someone had to take the initiative to turn into a monster to defeat Sukuna. It will be interesting to see how Yuta controls SIX EYES and LIMITLESS, even though it might not be enough to defeat the King of Curses.
