Appleseed takes place in a utopian city surrounded by wastelands. Some genetically-engineered humans who feel no hatred dwell amongst ordinary city folks, being superior in some aspects and inferior in others.
These genetically-engineered humans are called Bioroids. They have no reproductive system, and hence, they have to go through special procedures to increase their lifespan.
This perfect society is governed by a single government with its capital in the city of Olympus. Olympus is highly advanced in terms of technology but not in terms of mentality.
Bioroids constantly face threats from their human counterparts and are feared for their ability to take over the world.
The stories of the trials and tribulations of the two protagonists are told through movies, an OVA, and a TV series with brilliant animation and soundtracks.
