Bethesda continues its tradition of having a plethora of glitches with Starfield, but they’re not nearly as bad as the developers’ previous titles like Fallout 76. For the past few days, players have been exploiting a new glitch dubbed the “Puddle Glitch” to earn tons of items and Credits.
The glitch was discovered by Reddit user, u/Heretic0. Basically, you can steal the whole inventory of Shepherd’s General Store in Akila City using the glitch, but it doesn’t count as stealing in game as it’s a glitch. So you can steal everything from the store’s inventory as many times as you want (at least until it gets patched).
To perform the Puddle Glitch in Starfield:
- Head to Akila City and go to Shepherd’s General Store, located on the left after entering the city.
- A small puddle will be located to the right of the front door.
- Crouch in front of the puddle and keep moving your pointer around it until the inventory screen appears.
- Once the inventory pops up, everything that’s listed there is yours.
The inventory menu’s specific location is near the centre of the puddle, but you’ll find it with ease if you simply move your pointer around the puddle. You can literally take anything you want from the store, and it’s all yours to keep.
This is also one of the easiest ways to earn an infinite amount of Credits as you can sell whatever you take from the store’s inventory back to the store itself, which is pretty hilarious.
What makes this glitch even better is the fact that the supplies refresh after a day. Simply wait for 24 hours, then go back to the puddle to find the inventory resupplied with more items and Credits to take. There are no consequences for it, so exploit it as much as you can before it’s eventually patched.
1. Why does the Puddle Glitch happen in Starfield?
Apparently in Starfield, the devs hid chests containing inventories outside all stores that could only be accessed in the dev build. But, for some reason, they didn’t hide the chest properly in front of Shepherd’s General Store, which led to it being accessible through the puddle.
It’s not a bad thing at all, since players can use this to their advantage to obtain some free goodies and Credits and I’m pretty sure no one’s complaining about this. After all, it’s a Bethesda game so things like this can be expected.
This also doesn’t mean that the developers are incompetent or anything; it’s a fun little glitch and should be treated as such. Bethesda games are infamous for their hilarious glitches, but this is one that actually benefits the player, so it’s a win-win for everyone.
