Just when you think AC: Valhalla can’t get any bigger, Ubisoft does the unexpected by rolling out the substantial Dawn of Ragnarok DLC. This third expansion adds 35 hours of additional content to the open-world RPG by putting players in the shoes of all-father Odin, where he battles fate to stave off his destined end.
If you are an enthusiast of the game and cannot wait to wield the powers of a Norse god, here’s how you can dive into this epic journey.
Players loading a previous save with Eivor’s power level at 340 or more can start AC Valhalla’s Dawn of Ragnarok by completing the Restless Dreams quest. The mission requires speaking to Valka in Ravensthorpe and sleeping beneath a specific tree to be transported to the dwarven realm of Svartalfheim.
Effortless, right? Now, some of you must be wondering if a player below 340 level can take on the mightiest foes of a mythological realm and, at the same time, rescue Baldr from the wrath of Surtr?
The good news is yes. It seems like Ubisoft developed the DLC to cater to the needs of both amateurs and professionals alike. Let’s find out how:
Starting AC Valhalla’s Dawn of Ragnarok DLC with Power Level below 340
Even if your power level is below 340, there’s no need to fret as you won’t have to take on the base game again to progress as Eivor. Instead, AC Valhalla will provide players with a temporary power boost which grants them a Mythical gear set and increases the level to 340, but only for the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC.
It has to be reiterated that once you leave Svartalfheim, Eivor will lose the enhanced stats and return to the previous level.
Thankfully, every XP and skill point earned along with the items looted and upgraded while diving into the expansion will be retained when returning to England.
Now, for every player who can’t get more of AC Valhalla, there is a person who is yet to start the RPG. Suppose you’re one such enthusiast. You just forked out a good amount of cash on AC Valhalla and the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC.
But before you play as Eivor in the base game, you gave in to the lure of wanting to control All-father Odin, the most powerful Asgardian god, first. While it’s unheard of to play an expansion before the main storyline, you still must be wondering, is it possible?
The short answer is yes. Even if you have never played Valhalla before, Dawn of Ragnarok can still be accessed. Here’s how:
How to access the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC without playing AC Valhalla?
Go to Main Menu, select New Game, and choose Dawn of Ragnarok to play the expansion pack without starting AC Valhalla’s storyline. It must be noted that if you decide to do so, your gameplay would be limited to Svartalfheim only.
Here, you will automatically begin at the recommended 340 power level and pack suitable gear. Unfortunately, all the XPs, items, and skill points you acquire in this adventure as Odin won’t transfer to England because the DLC will end up unrelated to the main game and act independently.
Now that we’re well aware of how to dive into the realm of Dawn of Ragnarok, let’s find out how we can leave Svartalfheim and go back to England.
How to leave Svartalfheim in AC Valhalla’s Dawn of Ragnarok?
To leave Svartalfheim and head back to England, pause the game and select the ‘Wake Up’ option from the menu. Alternately, one can also go to the Asgardian Gate icon on the map and select the ‘Wake Up’ option.
It is also possible to depart from Svartalfheim by visiting the in-game Asgardian Gate and choosing the ‘Leave Svartalfheim’ option at the door.
