Similar to Arkane’s other delightful titles, the stylish rogue-lite FPS, Deathloop, also has players working their way through multiple locked safes. As is the case with any other game, though, this is no easy task.
With a bit of “big-brain” usage and keen observation, players can definitely crack the safes open and obtain the treasure within. Even amongst all these safes, though, there is one that is a bit too tricky to crack open than others.
The one I mean is the Updaam Cave Safe. As difficult as it may be to solve this problem, you’ll feel like a glowing-brain-genius once you crack it by yourself. To those, unfortunate enough that couldn’t crack it by themself, though, fret not. It’s completely okay to feel lost at one point in this puzzle or the other. Allow me to aid you in solving this puzzle with a bit of ease.
Fair warning first. So, the best that I can do for you is to provide you with the steps to complete this puzzle. As much as I would love to hand over the code directly, it is actually different for each player, so my solution may differ from yours.
With that said, how do you solve the Updaam Cave Safe in Deathloop?
To open the safe, find the numbers at the spots marked on the map in the cave. Superimpose the triangles to the right of the map on it as they represent one digit of the code. Finally, use the glyphs on the triangles to determine the code, crack the safe open and obtain the treasure within.
It goes without saying that opening the safe can prove to be far trickier than just that, considering how the code also differs from player to player. Not to mention, you might need a piece of paper, or some graphic editing tool to really figure this puzzle out properly (No cap).
Don’t worry, though. We’ll sort every aspect of this one by one. For starters, let’s take a look at this puzzle in depth, then make our way through the rest of it.
How do you open the Updaam safe in Deathloop?
You might find yourself stumbling upon this safe in a cave in Updaam directly below Alexis’ mansion. While it is accessible at all times of the day, it is recommended that you try to unlock it in the morning or afternoon as Juliana won’t be there to mess things up for you.
On the map beside the safe, you’ll find six locations (three corners of the triangle, two Xs, and one question mark) marked as follows:
It’s best to take a screenshot and then head out in search of these numbers. Also, do take note of the glyphs at each corner of the triangle.
So, the next thing to do is to go to these locations and look for a number at each spot – you’ll find the numbers encircled on buildings somewhere at the marked location. Here’s an example:
Once you have all these numbers, note them down somewhere and head back to the cave.
Solving The Triangles for The Updaam Safe
Okay, so this part is going to be seriously tricky, but bear with me.
Once you’re back at the cave, make note of the triangles on the metal at the right of the map. They’ll be something like this:
Now, what you need to do, is align these triangles to the triangle present on the map. How do you do that, you ask? Well, remember those glyphs I asked you to take note of? You can use them to align the triangles on the map. Try using a graphic editor and draw those triangles on the screenshot of the map to make things a little easier.
Cracking the Updaam Safe Code
Here’s where things get interesting (or annoying), though. Each of these three triangles represents a particular digit of your three-part code.
The rightmost marked one will represent the first digit, the middle triangle represents the second digit, and the leftmost triangle represents the third digit. Let’s say, my digits for the first triangle are 1, 2, and 3. So, my first digit is going to be a combination of these three numbers.
Now, once you obtain the three numbers from the triangle, try out different combinations of them on the safe. Once you put in the correct code, the safe will open up and you’ll be able to obtain the treasure within.
Inside the safe is 5,000 Residuum, which you can use to infuse your gear. It is recommended to unlock this safe early on, so you can keep coming back to collect some Residuum every time you visit Updaam.
That’s about it for this puzzle. While it may be one of the hardest to crack in this game, the satisfaction that you get from finally completing it, coupled with the rewards that you receive, certainly makes it worth it.

Not to mention, he also is a target of Julianna, who is tasked with protecting the time loop and stopping Colt.
Deathloop will be released on Windows and PlayStation 5 on May 21st, 2021, with the latter platform having a timed console-exclusivity to the game.
