The Gauntlet of Shar, situated beneath the Thorm Mausoleum in Baldur’s Gate 3 is home to the Silent Library which contains a tricky puzzle. As the name suggests, the entire library has a silent spell cast on it, which can be removed by figuring out what can silence the Nightsong.
The Silent Library puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be solved by a book called Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger, which answers the question “What can silence the Nightsong?”. The book can be found in the second bookcase along the entrance. However, be wary of traps.
1. Where is the Silent Library puzzle located in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Silent Library is located in the lower-left corner of the Gauntlet of Shar, to the North of the waypoint. Proceed down the staircase and along the hall to reach the entrance to the Silent Library. It’s worth noting that you cannot cast any spell inside the Library.
In the middle of the library will be an enemy which you need to defeat to remove the silent spell cast around the entered Library. Focus more on melee classes to defeat the enemies.
2. What to do with the book “Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger” in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Before you solve the Silent Library puzzle, you need to unlock the big gate by rolling the dice at the far end of the room leading into the space with the small circular altar. Watch out for traps here as well.
If you examine the top of the altar, it reads “What can silence the Nightsong?”. Activating the altar will bring up a box where you need to insert the book “Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger”.
Inserting the book will open the door in front of you, leading to another room with loot. You’ll be rewarded with Spear of Night, Dark Justice Half-Plate and more.
