Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with tricky puzzles for players to solve, and some of them might be a bit too tricky, such as the Defiled Temple floor puzzle. It revolves around spinning certain circles on the ground that represent the phases of the moon, and doing so will unlock a new area.
You can access the Defiled Temple through the west side of the Shattered Sanctum. The area will be filled with goblin guards that you can either kill or sneak past, as it’s a goblin camp so tread carefully. After this, lockpick Priestess Gut’s room’s door and inside the room will be another room leading into the Temple.
To solve the moon puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, stand in the direction of when you got there and rotate the stone circles on the floor in the following order:
- Spin the top one once.
- Spin the left one once.
- Spin the right one twice.
- Spin the bottom one thrice.
- Spin the left one twice.
1. How to get into the Defiled Temple in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The top ones represent the full moon symbols, the bottom ones represent the new moon symbols, and the side ones represent the half-moon symbols. You’ll hear a click sound as soon as you solve the puzzle successfully, and a hidden passage will be revealed, which is then revealed as one of the entrances to the Underdark.
NOTE: Split your team before attempting to solve the puzzle since they might get in the way, which might ultimately prevent you from successfully solving it.
2. How to get into the Defiled Temple in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Defiled Temple is located in the Shattered Sanctum, and it can be accessed by heading west up the stairs in the area. After this, players can either lockpick Priestess Gut’s room’s door, and convince her to help removing the Mind Flayer parasite or jump across the gap on the right to enter it.
Inside the Priestess’ room will be another locked door leading to the Defiled Temple. There, you’ll come across the ogre Polma who’ll be patrolling the room. You can either sneak past them, convince them that you belong there, try to buy your way in, or simply kill them if things go wrong. Continue along the path in the Defiled Temple, and you’ll come across the moon puzzle on the floor.
3. Can the moon puzzle be bypassed in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The moon puzzle can be bypassed entirely by passing a successful passive Perception check roll. Head to the north side of the room or the back right corner and climb up the stairs. Passing a successful Perception check will prompt your character to say, “Something over there”.
You’ll notice that a lever has been revealed on the side of the platform. The lever will be locked, so you’ll need to lockpick it and activate it in order to unlock the secret door. Alternatively, you can also use the Priestess’ Key to lockpick it, but you’ll need to have the key to do so.
