There is no shortage of things trying to kill you in Resident Evil Village; it would be better to count the things that are not trying to kill you! Thus it would be better to save your game.
Resident Evil Village does let you save your game, but the save mechanic does not work the way you’d expect it to! Follow this guide to learn how to save your game in Resident Evil Village.
You can save your games in Resident Evil Village at typewriters. The typewriters act as save points in Resident Evil Village, but auto-saving is a whole other ballgame.
Unlike previous titles, you don’t need special items like ink rolls to save your game at typewriters. In RE Village, the save points are unlimited use; you can go back to them and use them how many times you wish. Usually, they are located near the Duke.
Auto Saving in Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village does have an autosave feature. Your game gets auto-saved, but the frequency of autosaving is relatively low.
The game only autosaves when you encounter a big boss battle; this comes in quite handy as you don’t have to track a typewriter just before a fight. You can identify if the game is auto-saving by the circular loading icon at the top left corner.
Typewriter Locations
Typewriters are marked on your map as you explore the game map. There are enough, so you don’t lose much progress but don’t get reckless.
RE Village is not the first game to introduce typewriters as save points, and there is some history behind them.
What’s Up with Typewriters and Resident Evil?
Since Resident Evil 4, this is the first time we are getting reintroduced to the typewriters. Before, we had to use up ink ribbons to save the game manually. This made you ration them and progress enough first before using a ribbon as they were a rare scarcity.
Resident Evil Biohazard, on the other hand, used recorders instead of typewriters as save points. I like that Resident Evil Village made unlimited use of typewriters with autosave compatibility; it is the best of both worlds.
About Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. It is the sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the tenth major installment in the Resident Evil series.
The story begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living happily in a new place, free from their past nightmares, a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Just as they are starting their new life together, they are once again struck by tragedy. When Captain Chris Redfield of the BSAA attacks their house, Ethan has to go to hell again to get back his kidnapped daughter.
