Elden Ring players worldwide got the shock of their lives when they logged into the game after the release of patch 1.05 and were greeted with an undesirable pop-up reading “inappropriate activity detected,” forcing them to play the game only in offline mode.
Generally, inappropriate activity actions are taken against cheaters and modders to prevent them from unfairly invading other players’ worlds. However, many players right now are receiving this ‘error’ despite ever cheating or installing mods. Luckily, Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has taken note of this issue.
The ‘inappropriate activity detected’ pop-ups are a minor bug in Elden Ring, which FromSoftware has already fixed. Affected players need to wait it out or re-login to get rid of this error.
If you are still facing the same problem and have no cheats or mods for Elden Ring installed in your system, then try these tricks to fix the error.
Restarting Steam or Epic Games Launcher
It may sound unrelated but many players have reported that merely restarting their Steam client and Epic Games Launcher has resolved the issue for them.
Additionally, restarting your PC may also help reset any programs running in the background, which may interfere with Elden Ring’s anti-cheat.
Verify the Integrity of the Game Files in Steam
To verify the integrity of the local game files in Steam:

- Right-click on the icon of Elden Ring in your Steam library.
- From the drop-down menu, select “Properties.”
- Select the Local Files tab, and
- Click the “Verify integrity of game files” button.
- Wait for the process to complete and then relaunch the game.
Repair the Anti-Cheat Through Steam
Corrupt Easy Anti-Cheat client files can also be the reason for the unwanted ‘Inappropriate activity detected’ pop-up error. To repair the anti-cheat files, simply follow the steps mentioned below.
- Launch Steam.
- Right-click on the icon of Elden Ring in your Steam library.
- From the drop-down menu, select “Properties.”
- Select the Local Files tab, and
- Choose the ‘View’ option in the File Explorer options.
- Navigate to the ‘EasyAntiCheat’ folder in the newly opened window of File Explorer.
- Look for the EasyAntiCheat setup inside the folder and run it.
- Choose Elden Ring and then repair the anti-cheat.
- Relaunch the game.
The error will be fixed once the game loads up.
Turn Off your VPN
Using a VPN while playing Elden Ring may also cause the game to detect it as some sort of cheat/mod running in the background. So, turn off the VPN and relaunch the game.
