How to Finish the Friendly Merchant Xu Dog Questline in Black Myth: Wukong?

Black Myth: Wukong has a lot of interesting quests and enigmatic NPCs. Especially merchant NPCs. Some like the Man-In-Stone, are Bosses that later become scamming salesmen.

On the other hand, some honest merchants sell items that the players need and even guide or help them in a few ways. The Xu Dog is one of the friendly merchants. He moves here and there but always benefits the player.

To complete the Xu Dog questline, reach Chapter 2 and head to the Yellow Wind Ridge. Head along the bridge at Sandgate into a tunnel to meet Xu Dog. Help him retrieve one of his medical formulae from a frog-type miniboss.

The Xu Dog is a friendly character and merchant you can meet in Chapter 2 of Black Myth Wukong. As you progress along the story, you will find that the Xu Dog is a moving NPC, meaning he appears at different stages. Each time, he does bring about benefits.

This character will teach you the art of crafting consumable medicine and further appears to teach you how to gain the sweet passive buffs from Celestial Medicines.

To encounter Xu Dog, start from the Sandgate Village located in the Yellow Wind Ridge region in Chapter 2. From there, follow the path and head across the pond that you will encounter.

Take a left, and you can reach the Village Entrance Shrine. You will be able to spot a wooden bridge there; there is a secret ditch below it. Head into it and follow it to reach a tunnel path.

This is where you will find our somewhat furry-looking ‘Big Dog’ friend, who only gives. Of course, you must help him get his medicine formula back to be buddies with him. Defeat the miniboss frog Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw (yeah, horrible name).

Xu Dog will reward you with 2 Evil Repelling Medicament for returning the formula to him, and even better, he will teach you how to craft consumables to augment and help in your journey. You can finally use all the random things you’ve been stowing away.

To unlock Celestial Medicines in Black Myth: Wukong, head to the Crouching Tiger Temple and enter the Cellar area. The Xu Dog merchant from Chapter 2 will teach you how to craft Celestial Medicines.

You can start from the Crouching Tiger Temple; there will be a tunnel that leads inside along a very steep slope. You will find yourself in the Cellar of the Temple.

The area is very dark, and you must find your way to the far end of the cellar. Here, you can find our furry old friend, Xu Dog.

You previously helped Xu Dog recover his medical formula, but now he has something better for you. He will teach you the divine art of crafting the Celestial Medicines.

The difference between the Mortal and Celestial Medicines is that Mortal Medicines are consumables, and the buffs are active and temporary. The Celestial Medicines are actually passive buffs.

He will also reward you with a Mind Core. It would be best if you had them for the Celestial Medicines (which can be found as drops and from chests). There are various types of Celestial Medicines to increase stamina, health and even mana. You can even increase your critical chances.

Xu Dog’s questline ends here, and he becomes a friendly, honest merchant, and you can use Mind Cores to exchange for new recipes from him. And other interesting trinkets.
