Investigating Aelfgarstun – The Billhook Clues Guide – AC Valhalla   

Briefly into the story campaign of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Eivor will gain recognition of the Hidden Ones. It comprises forerunners of the Assassins who waged a secret war against the ancestors of the Templars – Order of the Ancients. Similar to the Cult of Cosmos and the Templars, the Order functions to control the world from the shadows. 

Unsurprisingly, they keep their identity a secret. Although it isn’t part of the main quest, players must uncover their identities and eliminate their existence. Upon doing so, they’ll be able to reach the leader of their respective sections. 

One of such sections in AC Valhalla is the Wardens of Wealth, and the first target of this Order is the Billhook.  

You’ll require a couple of clues to get your hands on the Billhook, a member of the Order. For the first clue, you need to find and kill another member of the Order named the Anvil. Then head to Aelfgarstun farm from the south, enter the house on the left and search a barrel for the second clue. 

There are a couple of potential concerns in the above strategy. Locating the Aelfgarstun farm can be a task, and getting your hands on the second Billhook clue isn’t effortless either.  

Here’s a detailed guide to help players find and investigate the Aelfgarstun farm thoroughly to locate the Billhook in AC Valhalla. 

Step #1 – Find and Kill the Anvil 

Since the Anvil is also a member of the Wardens of Wealth, finding him requires getting your hands on two clues. Mentioned below are ways to get hold of the Anvil. 

I. Eliminate the Anvil’s Zealot Associate 

As the first clue implies, players need to head to St. Albanes Abbey on the southern border of Oxenefordscire.  

You’ll find the Zealot associate of the Anvil, Cudberct, patrolling the area. Consequently, sneak up on him and murder him to receive a note that leads to the apt location of the Anvil. 

II. Locate the Anvil’s Smithy 

The note received encompasses the second clue – the location of the Anvil’s smithy. You can find it in the small town of Oxeneforda.  

Although several guards surround the street of his forge, he is either all by himself or sleeping in a bed beside an open window. As a result, it’s considerably easy to assassinate him. 

However, it’s advisable to wait until sunset to carry out the task, as assassinating him during the day can draw the guards’ attention. 

Step #2 – Locate and Investigate the Aelfgarstun Farm 

Upon killing the Anvil, players will receive the first clue, which dictates them to go to Aelfgarstun and look for the second clue.  

The farm of Aelfgarstun is northwest of Lincoln’s ancient town in Lincolnshire. 

Note: Aelfgarstun was an estate and village in Lincolnshire, England. The region is named after one of Lincoln’s very own lords, Aelfgar.  

Once you reach the Aelfgarstun farm, use Odin’s vision to look for the second clue. It’s significantly easier to find if you enter the farm from the south. Head to the house on the left and find a barrel. Inside the same, you’ll find a note revealing the identity and location of the Billhook.  

Step #3 – Assassinate the Billhook 

According to the second clue, Billhook’s real name is Havelok, and he’s hiding in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. His villa is present at the foot of the wall of Lincoln’s town hall building.  

Upon reaching his villa, players will find him sitting at the desk of one of the many rooms with his back turned to the other. In a few cases, players can also find him sleeping on the bed, depending on whether they see him during the day or night. 

The simplest way to locate the Billhook in the villa is by using Odin’s Vision. Once you get to the desired room, sneak up on him and wait for the assassination prompt to pop up. Finally, finish him and complete the side quest.
