Palatinus Gifle, also known as “The Ash-Spear,” is a member of the Order of the Ancients in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Players must kill him by collecting clues to uncover his identity and location as a part of their mission to eradicate the menacing Order.
Usually, you have to collect three clues to find the location of an Order member before ending them. But in the case of “The Ash-Spear,” you can skip the part of collecting clues and assassinate him instantly anytime if you already know his location.
The Ash-Spear in AC: Valhalla can be found in a large bandit camp called the Forest Hideout in Theotford to the east of Grantebridge. He is usually seen supervising a small training yard at the highest point of the forest while being guarded by a Goliath and several bandits.
Heading straight to Gifle’s camp without looking for clues can help you save time, but it might not lead to a fulfilling experience.
After all, the sweetest victory comes after the hardest battle. If you want to taste it too, put on your investigative glasses and find three valuable bits of information that shed light on this enemy’s whereabouts. In case you stumble upon an obstacle on your path, our guide is here to help you clear it.
1 Wuffa Zealot
To obtain the first clue to finding the Ash-Spear, players will have to find and kill Wuffa, a frequent drinking companion of the Gifle. She is a ruthless enemy who can be found roaming the roads of Theotford Forest in East Anglia on horseback.
Wuffa is a nimble and fast foe who uses quick combos to leave the uncareful stunned. Defeating her is tricky, but it’s not the most challenging task out there. Through patience, you can easily turn the odds in your favor.
Once you confirm her kill, you will get the first clue that points towards the second clue’s location.
2 Clue 2: Ruined Tower
After killing Wuffa, get to the Roman tower near Scotthoh farm in East Anglia. If you look around this tower, you’ll spot a wooden cart on the left of a raging pyre. Approach it to obtain the second clue and learn more about the Ash-Spear and his whereabouts.
Moreover, this clue in Ruined Tower will reveal the next and final step Eivor has to take before getting to the Ash-Spear.
3 Clue 3: Bandit Camp
The third clue can be collected from a bandit camp that’s situated between Britannia’s Watch and Thetford Village in East Anglia.
After reaching the camp, investigate it until you come across a wooden table with a note on it. Picking up the note will reveal the Ash-Spear’s identity as well as his location in Theotford Forest.
Killing the Ash-Spear
Given that many allies surround the Ash-Spear, killing him out in the open can bring a lot of unnecessary attention. Therefore, it’s better to do the job quietly by relying on stealth.
Make use of bushes as cover and operate silently without alarming the bandits to achieve this. Once done, you’ll net in an Order of the Ancients medallion, an armor rune, and a clue about Crozier – another member of the Order.
