Lord Gortash is one of the main antagonists in Baldur’s Gate 3. A part of the enigmatic Chosen of the Absolute and soon to become the Archduke, Gortash eventually sees himself ruling over the city. It is your duty to put an end to the ruthless politician. Read on if you want to find out how to defeat Gortash.
There are a few ways to start the boss fight with Lord Gartash, even one where you won’t have to fight him at all. Once you reach Wyrm’s Rock Fortress, you can start looking for Gartash.
How to find Lord Gortash?
Before proceeding ahead, make sure you have completed the ‘Disable the Steel Watch’ quest. You can storm into Wyrm’s Rock Fortress anytime and challenge Gartash to a fight. Talk to Lord Gartash’s parents before doing so and bring along Karlach.
Here’s how to reach Lord Gartash:
- At the Basilisk Gate, you will come across several Flaming Fist. Trigger them in groups of four– first at the front door, then in the hallway and barracks.
- Go to the far end of the keep.
- Climb on to the ledge and make your way to the back entrance.
- Enter through the door and you will find yourself at the back of the Audience Chamber.
You can cut this in short by approaching the defense head-on in the Audience Chamber. However, it is not recommended since the outcome will not be in your favor. The room is laden with grenade-launchers, flaming incinerators, Flaming FIst, and Black Gauntlet.
How to defeat Lord Gartash?
Inside the chamber where Lord Gartash awaits you, there are two incinerator traps. These will gradually decrease your health before the fight even begins.
As you proceed ahead, in the main room, there are six incinerators around the room as well as a Force Curtain which will provide Gartash special protection. You can find the incinerators in the following places:
- At the entry door (x2)
- On either side of the Force Curtain (x2)
- Left side of the center (x1)
- Right side of the center (x1)
Watch out because even Gartash’s spells can trigger these traps. You have to be smart and bait Gartash into blowing himself up.
Moving on to the three Black Fist opponents in the room, the first priority is to compromise on vision so that they are at a disadvantage. Try casting spells like Darkness, Blindness, and Fog Cloud.
Before moving on to Gartash, here are a few things you need to do:
- Eliminate the Black Fist.
- Destroy the Force Curtain and incinerator traps.
- Distract Gartash so that you have a head start.
Some time into the fight, Gartash will summon aspects of Bane. This can get messy real soon so try to keep him in the center of the room to minize damage.
Keep your party spread out and engaged. Remember to be aggressive and keep a high-level spellcaster beside you. Gartash will sustain significant damage from melee spells as well as Polymorph and Hold Person.
The main challenge lies in defeating the Steel Watchers rather than Lord Gartash. Gartash is slightly better than average enemy. His moves are consistent and there is not much surprise hidden away.
