Cyberpunk 2077 is now in the most stable state it has ever been, after years of continuous updates and bug fixes. While there is a plethora of upsides to updating a game like Cyberpunk, believe it or not, there are some downsides too.

If you’ve installed mods in the game to tune your Cyberpunk experience, any patch or update will basically break your game and won’t open because of mods being outdated. This is where downgrading the game to an older version comes in.

To downgrade Cyberpunk 2077 to an older version on Steam, players need to:

1. Go to their Steam Libraries
2. Right click on Cyberpunk 2077
3. Select Properties
4. Among all the options in the sidebar, go to BETAS
5. Change the Beta Participation from “None” to “1_63_legacy_patch”

This will revert the game to an older version. If you wish to return to the newest version, repeat all the steps above and select “None” in the BETAS menu. But if you want to keep your mods, then I suggest playing the game in the older version.

How to stop Cyberpunk 2077 from auto-updating on Steam?

To prevent Cyberpunk 2077 from auto-updating on Steam, players need to:

1. Right click on Cyberpunk 2077 in Steam Library and click on Properties
2. Click on Local Files on the sidebar
3. Select Browse and it’ll lead to the game’s install directory (example: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077)
4. From there, navigate to the steamapps folder
5. Find the file appmanifest_1091500.acf
6. Right click on the file and select properties
7. Check the Read-only dialog box at the bottom

This prevents Steam from writing to this specific file, as a result of which Cyberpunk doesn’t auto-update. Once you’re ready to update, just uncheck the Read-only box again, and you’re good to go.

Since Cyberpunk 2077 most likely won’t receive any huge updates in the near future other than patches and bug fixes, as the dev team has reportedly shifted their focus to the highly anticipated sequel, ensure that all of your mods are up to date as well.
