The Divine Beast Dancing Lion is a majestic boss in Elden Ring’s latest expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree. It might be one of the first bosses you come across in the Realm of Shadow, unless you have the misfortune of facing the Ghostflame Dragon. Nevertheless, if you find yourself standing in front of the prancing animal, do not be intimidated!
Where to find the Divine Beast Dancing Lion?
The Divine Beast Dancing Lion is in the tower settlement in Belurat. The boss rests in the theater area inside the Belurat legacy dungeon. You won’t miss it since it is a mandatory spot in the main plotline. The nearest waypoint is the Belurat Site of Grace.
How to beat the Divine Beast Dancing Lion in Elden Ring?
The trick to beating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion is agility. In this boss fight, you need to be fast and moving at all times. One way to ensure that your attacks do not go in vain is that when the Lion is still, make sure to hit at least twice before retreating to a safer distance.
Once the fight begins, the Lion will either do a smoke attack or slowly advance towards you. Whatever happens, your best bet is to dodge to the side.
In the early stages of the fight, the Dancing Lion only has a few attacks. It can try to bite your head off i.e. it will rear back and click its jaws a couple of times before lunging forward. Just dodge forward the moment the Lion jumps at you.
The most common attack the Lion does is a three-move combo where the Lion rears back, dives forward, spins and dives forward again before finally ending with a powerful upward thrust. While it is not the same every time, this is the footing of the attack.
No matter which variation of this attack the Lion performs, you only have to do one thing– dodge forward the moment the beast first dives. It will either stop the combo or even if it completes it, you will be out of range.
The Dancing Lion also has a couple of debris attacks:
- If it emits dust and stone, dodge/sprint sideways.
- If it rifts a single stream of debris, dodge sideways.
- If it stands on its hind legs, spews out debris and spins thrice, dodge backwards and run away to a distance.
During the fight make sure not to get too close to the Dancing Lion when it is moving since it causes the camera to go crazy.
In the middle of the fight, the Dancing Lion will switch to using ice, lightning, and wind. You will know when it jumps into the air to enter any of these three elemental forms. This can be a headache since the Lion will alternate every 30 seconds.
The Lion will send out lightning bolts which can be easily dodged. However, if there’s any residue, keep away from these spots since lightning will strike in the same place again!
The wind projectiles will deal some serious damage if hit. But they are also easy to dodge by rolling sideways.
If the Lion starts shooting ice spikes, just jump over them. If hit by one, it will cause frostbite, gradually reducing your health over the course of the fight.
The mere moments when you are not dodging the Dancing Lion’s attacks, use them to attack the beast with melee weapons and spells.
Now we come to the final stage. Although the Lion does not perform any new attacks in this phase, this is much more intense because it will switch between elements faster than before.
The window between attacks will be very minute so act quick. This is the perfect time to summon a Spirit Ash. The added distraction can buy you an extra few seconds. Keep on attacking aggressively until the Lion is finally eliminated.
