Elden Ring’s Shadow of Erdtree has many original enemies—each of them has its own combat mechanics and special perks. The Aging Untouchables of the Abyssal Woods are such.
The Untouchables are called so because you cannot deal any damage to them, no matter the spell or weapon. Not in the normal way, that is.
1. How to defeat the Aging Untouchables in Elden Ring?
- Use a shield or weapon with the Parry option.
- To defeat the Aging Untouchables use Parry and then land a critical hit when they are vulnerable.
- The cue for the Parry is the Untouchable raising its wand and a yellow glowing line.
The Untouchables are in a way, harder to deal with than most Bosses. This is because of two reasons- First, they can instantly kill you if they get ahold of you. Not to mention the ever-present Madness infliction.
Second, unlike Bosses or other enemies, you can’t inflict damage upon it, Even with the most powerful of Incantations. These enemies are supposed to be invincible. But they do have one weakness, the awe-inspiring Parry and counter.
2. Choosing Your Parry Weapon
In Elden Ring, different weapons have different Ashes of War, and only one of those Ashes of War is the Parry option. The following are the best options for Parry without the Ashes.
- Buckler shield: Considered the best parry shield
- Dagger: Quick Parry times, easier to use. Fewer eye-frames
Of these, the Buckler Shield is the pick I would suggest. This is because it is very easy to find. You can find it in the Lands Between very early in the game. Shields like the Rift Shield work as well (usually, Shields have the Parry option) either way, any weapon works with the Parry option.
Equip your shield or weapon and get prepared to use the Parry mechanic, maybe practice it on a few straggler foes here and there.
3. Things to Keep in Mind During Combat with The Untouchables
The Aging Untouchables are certainly unique and nigh-invincible. But to overcome their invulnerability by using Parry- you need to first stay alive.
The major things to keep a lookout for are-
- The Instant Kill rush attack
- The continuous Madness Infliction
3.1 Instant Kill Attack
The Aging Untouchables have a very rapid-paced attack. They will teleport behind you, knock you to the ground, and then grab you using their wand attack. Once you are in their grasp, they will drain your health instantly to kill you. Keep in mind, that their teleportation is instantaneous and unavoidable.
The counter to this attack is to pick yourself up and roll away from the Untouchable as soon as possible. Keep repeating this and dodging the Untouchable and you will be able to find the right timing to execute the perfect Parry.
3.2 Madness Infliction
The Aging Untouchables have another uniqueness, that is the constant Madness infliction. They do this until your character gets the affliction. Madness is an affliction that causes heavy stagger as well as drains the player’s HP and FP in Elden Ring.
To counter this, try increasing your resistance to Madness by increasing your Mind stat. You can use Talismans like the Clarifying Horn Charm. There are other ways such as making the dishes- Clarifying Cured Meat and Clarifying White Cured Meat.
4. Defeating the Untouchables
Aging Untouchables can be killed by parrying them. Nothing else works (I’ve tried). The question is when to parry?- the cue for the parry is the Untouchables using their wand attack (the one they use when they grab you).
There is a yellow glow around the Untouchables’ wands when they are about to cast the spell to grab you. This is your opportune opening. Use the parry and follow it up with a counterattack. Doing so will leave them vulnerable to a normal attack. Use your attacks and kill the Untouchables.
Killing the Aging Untouchables will earn you the Aged One’s Exultation talisman.
