God of War Ragnarok takes itself to another level with its unique and challenging boss fights. The game has several challenging boss fights, and Gryla is one of them. It might take some time to defeat this boss, but it won’t be difficult if done properly.
Gryla is the first boss that you face as Atreus, along with Angrboda as his companion. You won’t have access to Kratos’ Leviathan Axe or the Blades of Chaos. You may face a hard time beating Gryla so this guide will help you with the process of defeating her in God of War Ragnarok.
Hit the Cauldron
First thing you have to do in order to beat Gryla is to keep your distance and keep shooting your arrows at the Cauldron that Gryla is holding. The Cauldron is Gryla’s weakness and you have to keep hitting the bright purple portion at the center of it in order to deal maximum damage.
Hitting the Cauldron repeatedly will fill up Gryla’s stun meter. After she’s completely stunned, she’ll fall to the ground along with the Cauldron. Hit the Cauldron repeatedly with Atreus’ melee attack to deal damage.
Switch between platforms using Atreus’ swing abilities to avoid red areas. Atreus will suffer massive damage if he stays in the red areas so it’s advised to constantly move around the platforms and deal damage to her Cauldron from a distance.
Light the Candles
During the second stage of Gryla’s boss fight, she will try to keep the Cauldron away from Atreus in order to protect it. Use Angrboda by pressing the Square button on your controller near a candle to light it. This will make Gryla reveal the Cauldron and you can keep shooting the bright purple portion at the center of it.
Once Gryla has a small bit of health left, she’ll be stunned completely and the R3 button will appear. Click it to finish the boss fight. This fight may take some time but if done with proper strategy, you can defeat Gryla quickly.
What rewards do you obtain after defeating Gryla in God of War Ragnarok?
Defeating Gryla will reward you with only Atreus XP. There is no specific reward that you obtain after defeating Gryla. After defeating her, Gryla and Angrboda share an intense cutscene between them. After that you may move on with the story.
It is unfortunate that you obtain nothing other than some common XP for Atreus after defeating a somewhat difficult boss. Although, it makes sense since the fight was personal for Angrboda as Gryla is her grandmother.
