In Black Myth: Wukong, Elder Jinchi is a secret optional boss and an advanced version of the Wandering Wight with a similar move set.
This boss can be discovered following the Three Bells’ quest in the Ancient Guanyin Temple. Defeating Elder Jinchi yields valuable rewards for the final battle against Black Bear Guai.
May this guide aid you in defeating Elder Jinchi, a challenge worth undertaking before completing Chapter 1.
How to Defeat Elder Jinchi in Black Myth: Wukong
Killing Elder Jinchi requires a fair amount of strategy and skill. To reach him, defeat the three bell guardians – Guangzhi, Guangmou, and the Whiteclad Noble – and ring the bells to access the alternate Guanyin Temple.
To defeat Elder Jinchi in Black Myth: Wukong, take advantage of the brief moments between his attacks to strike back. Familiarize yourself with Jinchi’s move set, which mirrors the Wandering Wight’s, to effectively anticipate and counter his attacks. Also, steer clear of the golden ghosts, as they can explode or get hit by Jinchi’s attacks.
Midway through the fight, Jinchi becomes temporarily invincible and tries to heal himself by absorbing nearby spirits. Stop him from healing by killing the nearby spirits while dodging his attacks, ultimately leading to his defeat.
1. Preparing for Battle
The Secret: Ancient Guanyin Temple, a mystical realm reminiscent of the Guanyin Temple where you battled Lingxuzi, serves as the backdrop for your encounter with Elder Jinchi. To access the boss arena, simply unlock the main gate.
Optimize your character by allocating Spark points, crafting the latest gear, and equipping Wandering Wight as your Spirit to bolster your defense. Since most of his attacks are high, using Smash Stance will help you counter effectively.
2. Elder Jinchi Boss Attacks
Elder Jinchi is a stronger Wandering Wight, so use your previous experience as a foundation. He retains similar moves but with added flair: altered attacks, new moves, and the ability to fluidly chain his attacks into extended combos.
- Stun Energy: Jinchi releases a yellow energy blast that can stun you.
- Stomp and Punch Combo: Jinchi unleashes a 7-hit combo of stomps and punches.
- Minion Detonation: Jinchi’s disciples glow gold, charge towards you, and self-detonate.
- Clap Attack: During close combat, Jinchi attempts to crush you with a clap.
- Ground Stomp: Jinchi stomps the ground, creating a massive AoE.
3. Combat Tactics
As you enter the arena, Elder Jinchi greets you with a telegraphed energy attack, marked by his elaborate arm gesture and glowing hand. Take advantage of the opening to attack, as he’s left exposed during his slow recovery.
Next, he typically launches into a straightforward Stomp and Punch Combo, which can be effortlessly dodged with precise timing.
- Elder Jinchi’s attacks are slow, giving you time to charge heavy strikes from a distance. However, be aware that he has increased resistance to staggering, so be prepared to dodge even after completing a combo.
- The Smash Stance is ideal for this fight, as it enables movement while charging and faster charging speeds, proving highly beneficial.
- Be cautious of the ghosts in the arena, as they can turn hostile when the boss summons them. When they glow golden, they’ll charge toward you and explode, so immediately stop attacking and focus on evading and creating distance until they’re all cleared.
- Additionally, when Jinchi absorbs the spirits’ essence, he’ll unleash a powerful shockwave attack with a noticeable delay. Watch for his glowing hand and dodge to the side to avoid this potent attack.
- When the boss’s health falls below half, he’ll enter an invulnerable state for approximately a minute. During this second phase of the fight, disciples will emerge from the outer areas of the arena, which can be hard to see due to low visibility.
- They appear one after another in an anticlockwise direction, making it easy to swiftly move between them and defeat them with a single hit. This also allows you to absorb their life force and regain health, making it a good opportunity to heal if you took damage earlier.
- If you’re low on health or gourds, remember that you can temporarily transform into Guangzhi as a last resort.
Elder Jinchi employs basic yet dangerous melee attacks like Ground Stomp and Clap Attack in close combat. Use Immobilize or Cloud Step to interrupt his attacks.
A strong, focused attack can also stun or knock him down, giving you an opening. Timing is crucial; capitalize on Elder Jinchi’s recovery periods from powerful moves to strike decisively.
Rewards for Defeating Elder Jinchi
After emerging victorious against Elder Jinchi, you’ll be returned to Black Wind Mountain, near the bell you rang post-Whiteclad Noble battle.
Approach the wolf skin on the tree, and upon interacting with it, it will vanish, granting you the Fireproof Mantle, your first Vessel. This reward provides temporary fire immunity, crucial for the upcoming Black Bear Guai fight. A new icon will appear on-screen, indicating this mechanic.
Although this battle yields no XP, you’ll receive 2000 Will. Visiting a shrine will also unlock the Bronze armor set, enhancing your defense and fire resistance, proving vital for the chapter’s final challenge.
May your skills be sharpened and your spirit be fierce as you take on Elder Jinchi, Destined One!
