Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has come out with a wide range of post-game content to keep players entertained after they complete the main storyline. For instance, the Wrath of the Druids DLC features brand-new missions and battles in the wild country of Ireland.
However, the Balor boss fight in this DLC has caught the audience’s eye as its deadly pincer attacks have taken down many assassins who’ve failed to beat him.
To prevent any more casualties, I’ve made this guide to teach players everything they need to know about Balor, how to defeat him, and the rewards the game will give you for taking him down.
1. How to get the Balor Boss Fight in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
Players will encounter Balor during the Amber Sun quest. To gain access to this mission, players need to eliminate all Children of the Danu cultists before visiting Deirdre at her hut.
After that, the protagonist has to drink the potion offered by Deirdre. Doing so will teleport you to the dark realm, where you’ll face Balor, a demon from Irish mythology. The monster is menacingly enormous and has various deadly attacks.
But before that, players have to find and kill the Children of Danu to gain access to the Amber Sun quest.
2. How to find Children of Danu in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
Players need to start the ‘Potion of Blood’ quest for gaining the ability ‘Children of the Danu’ in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In this quest, you’ll meet Deirdre and learn that the cult members have bloody shards of amber containing mystical powers.
Accepting the mission unlocks the ‘Order’ tab in the main menu. Inside, you’ll find information about the 10 Children of Danu, including their locations. However, you’d have to collect clues on certain occasions to gather information about their strengths, weakness, and exact location.
For those who don’t know, the ten children of Danu are:
- Aideen, merchant of Dublin (The Spider)
- Cummascach (The Ash)
- Conlae, he of the flames (The Blaze)
- Niahm, the poet (The Wren)
- Leasleach, madwoman of the bogs (The Whisper)
- Ruaidrí, he of the ports (The Deer)
- Eogan mac Cartaigh (The Oak)
- Trian, he of the stone circles (The Mist)
- Bécc mac Nath-í, he of the oceans (The Seed)
- Setnaé, druid of the mists (The Cursed)
Defeating all of them will unlock the Amber Sun quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and you finally get the opportunity to take down Balor with your own hands.
3. How powerful is Balor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
The Balor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has a power level of 469 and will continue to gain abilities as the fight continues.
At the beginning of the battle, the Balor attacks the protagonist with two different abilities. Firstly, the Balor’s most common move is Triple Slash, a triple-hit combination attack. Then, the demon will use Aerial Dive, where he jumps in the air and dives straight into you.
The time-slowing mechanic is your best friend here. Make sure to use it to dodge his deadly attacks and counter them with your abilities. Once you’ve reduced 1/3 of the Balor’s health points, a cut-scene will trigger, and the baron will power up with brand-new attacks.
- Flaming Sword: Balor will launch a long-range attack on you.
- Demonic Circle: Balor will strike the ground with his large swords and cause an eruption of flames. These will crash on the floor, dealing damage if you’re in the area. However, the blue circles indicate these attacks beforehand, so run away as soon as you see them.
- Cyclops Laser: Balor will fire a lethal laser that follows Eivor around.
4. How to defeat Balor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
Players should keep their distance and use arrows like Mark of Death and Focus of the Nornir to deal damage and defeat Balor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Most of Eivor’s Melee abilities won’t have any effect on Balor. Gamers will see the casting animation, causing the attack to miss completely, or the transition won’t get completed. Therefore, it’s best to keep your distance and attack from afar while dodging his abilities.
5. How to get the Gae Bolg in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
Players are rewarded with the Gae Bolg spear after defeating the Balor and completing the Amber Sun quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
The Irish spear is a mythical weapon that deals immense lightning damage, triggered after three consecutive hits on your enemies. Also, it stuns enemies, leaving them vulnerable to your attack combos.
