The Rude Awakening quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is an early game main story quest in Rygjafylke that begins immediately after the end of a cutscene post the quest titled ‘The Prodigal Prince.’ Its narrative revolves around Eivor and Sigurd teaming up to hunt Kjotve’s spy and pillaging his supplies. This quest also introduces gamers to the raiding mechanics of the game. You will get a reward of 3,400 XP for completing this quest.
Players must first kill three spies sent by Kjotve the Cruel, then meet with Sigurd to raid and burn the supply wagons at the village of Nottfall controlled by Kjotve to complete the Rude Awakening quest in AC Valhalla.
1. Assassinating Kjotve’s First Spy
The quest begins as soon as Eivor wakes up from a nightmare and spots Kjotve’s men in his territory. Your first objective is to kill his spy. This task is quite straightforward. Follow the quest marker to find the spy and kill him to update the objective. The spy is patrolling the area and stops at certain places. Follow him and perform an assassination using the Hidden blades to avoid a direct fight.
2. Finding and Killing All of the Spies
Locating other spies may seem hard at first, but you can quickly do it using your raven by pressing V on your keyboard or pressing up on the D-pad on Consoles. Look around from the raven’s eyes, spot huge rocky hills highlighted in the southern direction, and mark them on the map. That’s where you will find the rest of the spies!
Ride to the south, and you will come across a couple of wooden huts. Walk past them through the path in the middle of the two rocks. Two spies are camping just ahead of this path. Sneak behind and assassinate them.
Once you have killed both the spies, the objective will update to ‘Reach Sigurd.’ Follow the quest marker approx. 150 meters north to reach Sigurd, sheltering near the coast, and a cutscene will initiate. During the cinematic, Sigurd and Eivor will decide to raid the village of Nottfall, which Kjotve controls.
3. Pillaging Kjotve’s Supplies
When the cutscene ends, get into the longboat and sail approx. 500m towards the northwest, following the quest marker. Once you reach the open waters, turn to the west and sail further 1000m to reach Nottfall.
As soon as you reach the shores, point your longship towards it, and you will get an option to raid the village.
Press triangle/Y to begin the raid. Now all you have to do is find and burn a few supply wagons while taking on a group of enemies.
4. Destroying the Supply Wagons
The supply wagons are small, hut-shaped carts on four wheels with flammable giant red pots next to them. You can use your raven to find them quickly.
The first supply wagon is right next to the dock towards the south. Hit the red pot with a melee or long-range weapon to set the wagon on fire. Now, make your way just a little ahead to the east to find another wagon over a wooden platform and burn it.
Pro Tip: If you catch fire yourself, take a dip in the sea waters.
The last two wagons are to the southwestern end of the village near a giant wooden hut. Destroy them, and the raid will be considered successful.
5. Finding Sigurd and Ending the Quest
Go back to the northern shore to meet Sigurd, and a long cutscene will initiate introducing Guthrom and King Harald.
They will express their wish to join you in the assault on the Kjotve’s fortress, and you will be given three choices where you can accept or deny their offer and question their intentions.
Interestingly, this choice has no severe consequence on the gameplay, as no matter what dialogue you choose, Harald’s warrior will end up joining you in the assault.
The quest will end after the cutscene is over, and you will be rewarded with 3,400 XP.
