Completing Count Ymir Questline in Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree – Detailed Walkthrough

Elden Ring has many characters that are pivotal for the progression. As in Lands Between, the Shadow Realm expansion has its fair share of such NPCs. One among them is the esteemed Count Ymir. Count Ymir offers a questline that is deeply connected and woven into the main narrative.

The quest yields not just unique gear and spells but unlocks new regions as the players progress through the quest. The importance of this quest lies in its necessity, as every player in the Shadow Realm needs to complete this tricky questline.

1. How to complete the Ymir questline?

1. Meet Count Ymir in Manus Metyr Cathedral.
2. Initiate the quest and receive the Hole-Laden Necklace and Ruins Map(first).
3. Speak to Jolan in the Cathedral.
4. Head to the Finger Ruins of Rhia and sound the Hanging Bell to complete the first Ruins.
5. Return to the Cathedral and speak to Ymir to get Ruins Map (second) and talk to Jolán.
6. Head to the Finger Ruins of Dheo and sound the Hanging Bell to complete the second Ruins.
7. Return to the Cathedral and interact with Ymir to get Ruins Map (third) and talk to Jolán.
8. Head to the Finger Ruins of Miyr and sound the hanging bell to complete the third Ruins.
9. Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers.
10. Return to the Cathedral and face Swordhand of Night Jolán.
11. Confront and defeat Count Ymir.
12. Finally, interact with Jolán to obtain either the Sword of Night or Spirit Ashes of Jolan.

2. Meeting Count Ymir in the Realm of Shadows

Count Ymir can be found in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr which is located in the Scadu Altus Region. The Cathedral is a massive construction and rests amidst the water. For reference, it is close to both the Shadow Keep and the Castle Ensis. It is located to the southeast of the Keep and northeast of Castle Ensis.

You can access the hole located in the Moorth Ruins to the northeast of the Site of Grace. The tunnel will lead to the Bonny Village. Navigate through Bonny Village, cross two bridges and ride southwest to reach the Cathedral where Count Ymir awaits.

When he is not at the Manus Metyr, Ymir can be found at the small graveyard close by. You can interact with him there. Ymir will also teach you Glintstone sorceries, so make sure to check his stock.

3. Completing the Finger Ruins of Rhia

Once you interact with Count Ymir the quest begins and Ymir will bestow upon you a Ruins Map (first) and a Hole-Laden Necklace. This marks the first step in his lengthy questline. Ride towards the Cerulean Coast which is near the Jagged Peak region.

This area is accessible by either completing the Dragon’s Pit quest or by navigating along the southwest shore. In the middle of the Finger Ruins of Rhia, you will find a huge hanging structure. This is the hanging bell, interact with it and blow it to obtain the Crimson Seed Talisman +1. This signals your first accomplishment in Count Ymir’s questline.

4. Completing the Second Ruins and Interaction

Return to the Cathedral and speak to Count Ymir again. This time he will give you the Beloved Stardust Talisman and Ruins Map (second). The map will lead you to the Ruins of Dheo. But it is a prerequisite that the O Mother Gesture has to be found to progress to the second Ruins.

Utilize the O Mother gesture near Marika’s statue in the Shadow Keep to unlock hidden realm and Hinterland. Proceed forward to reach the Finger Ruins of Dheo. Similarly, like in the Ruin of Rhia there is another bell. Sound the bell to obtain the Cerulean Seed Talisman +1.

5. Completing the Third Ruins and Interaction

Return to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr to unravel the underlying mysteries. There is a hidden ladder beneath Ymir’s throne, that leads to the Finger Ruins of Miyr.

Navigate the complex and intricate passages to encounter Mityr, Mother of Fingers. Mityr is guarding the path and will be your opponent. Emerge victorious against Mityr to claim the remembrance of the Mother of Fingers.

6. Defeating Count Ymir

As the climax of the questline approaches, head to the Cathedral after defeating Mityr. You will have to defeat the Swordhand of Night Jolan. After winning that battle you will proceed to confront Count Ymir himself within the cathedral’s sanctum region.

Some tips for this fight are that Count Ymir is weak to melee damage, so close in and keep striking. Remember that ranged attacks are not useful against him. After defeating Ymir, you will acquire Ymir’s Bell Bearing, Maternal Staff, and the prestigious High Priest attire as drops.         

7. Final interaction with Jolán

After Ymir is defeated head to Jolán, who is leaning against a pillar in the Cathedral. Here, you have a choice-

• Give Jolán the Iris of Grace– Obtain Swordhand of Night Jolán Spirit Ashes.
• Give Jolán the Iris of Occultation– Obtain the Sword of Night katana.

Pat yourselves on the back because this concludes the Ymir questline.

8. About Elden Ring

Elden Ring is the next major title to be released by FromSoftware, the developers of Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne and the Dark Souls franchise. Elden Ring is set to release on the February 25th, 2022.
