AC: Valhalla may be a divisive and polarizing Assassin’s Creed game among fans, but there’s no denying that it is an awesome RPG to sink yourself into. Amidst the sea of this game’s content, you’re bound to end up with a quest or two that you cannot help but feel absolutely enthralled by. Those are the moments when this game truly shines.
One such quest in particular is called “A Triumphant return”. It’s a main quest in the East Anglia arc that has Eivor right in the thick of things upon their arrival in Northwic. There, they learn of Rued’s plan to attack the city.
To complete “A Triumphant Return”, you’re required to catch Rued’s spies and bring them to Oswald. Upon learning the fort’s location, light up the brazier once you defeat all the enemies there. After a cutscene plays out, escape the fort with your allies to complete the quest.
So, this quest begins in Northwic, East Anglia at the location shown below. There, you can use your raven to find Oswald and begin away with it.
Of course, the quest itself isn’t as straightforward as it may initially come across as. Not to mention, it has a rather “interestingly unexpected” ending that may even leave you with a bit of a surprised face. I’m not going to spoil it for you – don’t worry.
That said, though, let me tell you how to complete this quest a little more in detail.
How to complete “A Triumphant Return in AC: Valhalla”?
So, let me summarize the quest for you real quick:
- Meet-up with Oswald.
- Defeat Rued’s Spies.
- Interrogate the spies and find the fort’s location.
- Meet your allies and take on the clansmen.
- Light the brazier and enjoy the cutscene.
- Finally, escape with your allies.
With that out of the way, let’s discuss the quest points a little more in depth.
I. Meeting up with Oswald
After locating Oswald using the method I explained above, you’ll find him in the midst of an argument with Broder. After Brothir (Yeah, it gets confusing) brings news of spies lying about, you’ll be quickly tasked with taking one of them.
II. Defeating Rued’s Spies
Now, you need to find one of the three spies laying low in the outskirts of East Anglia. So, head on over to the closest teal marker and use your raven to find the guy quickly and efficiently.
After beating him up, tie him and bring them back to Oswald.
III. Interrogate the Spy and Get to the Fort
After bringing the spy to Oswald, a brief cutscene will play out. Whatever choice you make here will not affect the quest’s outcome. The spy will be killed either way. Now, head on over to Dunwic fortress to meet up with your allies.
IV. Taking on the Clansmen
There are two ways of taking them on. You can either face them head-on and eliminate them in one big fight, like a true Viking or go the Assassin route and take the secret entrance to the right side of the Bridge.
Defeat all 15 enemies in the fortress to move on to the next phase of this quest. However, be careful when facing off against Woe Bringer – that guy is a bit more problematic than others.
It is also recommended to grab the key near him and open the breakable floor on the ground to access an ability. It is neatly tucked away and is found after you interact with a book underneath that breakable floor.
V. Lighting up the Brazier
Now that you’re done with all that, use your torch and light up the Brazier to mark the “Triumphant return of Oswald”. I’m not going to spoil it for you but things are going to go down quite unexpectedly. Anyway, a cutscene will play out, after which you’ll enter the last phase of the quest.
VI. Escape with your Allies
By now, you’ll know that it’s probably a good thing to escape as quickly as possible. Here, don’t worry about your mates and just run straight out of the fortress – they will meet you at the marked location.
With all that, you’re finally done with the quest. Now, this quest is directly followed by the quest, “Raising Iron” and you should certainly do it straight away too as it will continue the East Anglia arc.
Or, you can wait for us to post a guide on that too, your call.
