In a game as staggeringly vast as AC: Valhalla, there are a million things that you can do and achieve. You can raid villages, have a rap battle (Flyt sessions) with fellow Vikings, hunt animals, clear out enemy camps, partake in some drinking games, among so many other things.
Or, you can put all that lovely stuff aside and ask yourself this – “Umm, how do you switch arrows in this game?”
For real, though – as filled with content as AC: Valhalla may be, many players have stumbled onto this somewhat confusing situation and don’t really know what to do about it. Shooting your enemies away or solving puzzles with bow and arrows is integral to the game after all.
In AC: Valhalla, different types of arrows are tied to different bows in the game – the Light Bow, the Predator Bow, and the Hunter Bow. So, switching the bow type allows players to change their arrow types. Unfortunately, this mechanic stands as the only way to change arrows in the game.
Obviously, your assassin-brain must be filled with questions relating to what the best bow type is in this game, whether or not there really is no workaround for this mechanic, and so on. To all that I say, as I always do, all in good time.
Before we get to all that, let me explain this arrow-switching mechanic in AC: Valhalla a little more in detail.
Switching Arrows in AC: Valhalla – Explained.
In any RPG, players can craft or collect many different arrows, each with its own specific set of uses. AC: Valhalla, however, works with this system a little differently.
While you still got the different arrows in AC: Valhalla with various uses, the problem is that you cannot actually switch them on the fly.
Let’s say you’ve got some arrows that are useful for long-range strikes and sniping your enemies. Until and unless your bow is compatible with that particular set of arrows (which, in this case, would be the predator bow), you cannot use them whatsoever.
That brings us to the three different types of bows in AC: Valhalla.
So, there are three main bow types in AC: Valhalla:
- The Light Bow (Shorter range and faster)
- The Hunter Bow (The starting bow – mid-range)
- The Predator Bow (Your sniper rifle)
Corresponding to the bow types, you’ve got three main arrow types in the game:
- The light arrows
- The hunting arrows
- The Predator arrows
Thus, switching your bows will automatically switch out your arrows in the game. Remembering to use the correct set in a particular situation is what it’s all about. What is the correct set for any given situation, you ask? Let’s find out.
What type of bow and arrow is best for you in AC: Valhalla?
To be perfectly honest, the best bow and arrow type depends on your playstyle. The hunter bow is the standard bow type that can serve any purpose in an okayish manner, whereas the light bow is good for close-ranged battles and the predator bow is best for long-range sniping. So, it really boils down to the type of player that you are.
The hunter bow is what Eivor starts out with and is pretty much a jack of all trades, and a master of none. You can dish out some good damage with it, but it leaves a lot to be desired when put up against the other two types of bows.
The light bow, on the other hand, is a much faster alternative that deals some good damage in short range. If you’re someone who’d prefer to go with a mix of melee and ranged attacks, then this bow is perfect for you.
The predator bow, as I briefly described above, is AC: Valhalla’s equivalent of a sniper rifle. Find one of these and you can take out most of your enemies with a well-aimed shot from afar. If you prefer to go in stealthily and cause chaos from a good distance, then this is the way to go.
Is there any alternative to switching arrows in AC Valhalla?
Sadly, there is no other way to switch arrows in AC: Valhalla at the moment. For the special arrows, too – you need to be mindful of your surroundings and create them accordingly. For example, shoot arrows through any nearby fire to set them aflame.
This design choice is certainly a meditation on this game’s small issues but at the same time, it’s not that big of a deal either.
Spend some time with this new mechanic, and it’ll become second nature soon. Of course, for those that came fresh out of AC: Odyssey, getting used to this may take a bit of time. But fret not – you guys eventually will get there too.
Anyway, now that you know how to switch arrows in AC: Valhalla, why not go and shoot some bad guys out there? Have fun!
