The popular game has made its way to Star Wars Outlaws except it is known as the Kessel Sabcc. Want to quickly go through the game? You have come to the right place!

Kessel Sabacc Basics

Kessel Sabacc can seem confusing at first. You only have one goal in mind– to be the last one standing with chips. Surely, you need skills and a good understanding of the game to be a pro. However, a little cheating can help you find your footing.

There are many tables at different locations in Star Wars Outlaws where you can play Kessel Sabacc. All have different buy-ins and rewards. The first table you can play at is in Mirogana City.

How to play Kessel Sabacc?

Before the game starts, you will be prompted to select three Shift Tokens. They are legal “cheats” which every player can use in the game. Shift Tokens can either be purchased, found in the wild, earned as quest rewards, or won at a game.

Once you have picked up your Shift Tokens, the game will begin. You have to create a pair of two-cards with the lowest value. The value of the hand is calculated by subtracting the values of the two cards. For example, if your hand consists of a 5 and a 3, your hand value is 2.

“Sabacc” is when your hand value is 0 i.e. you have two matching cards.

The hands dealt are compared according to their value. 6 is the weakest and 1 is the strongest.

How to make a hand in Kessel Sabacc?

Every player receives two cards, each from a separate deck. The number of chips you will get depends on the table. The more chips, the longer the game.

In every round, you will have three turns to get a Sabacc hand by spending Tokens. When it is your turn, you will be presented with four piles– orange, red and two discard piles. You can use your token to draw a card from any of the given piles and discard a card from your hand.

You don’t have to do this every turn. If you are happy with your hand, you can pass.

Special Cards

Each deck has two special cards– the Sylop and Imposter.

The Sylop is what a Joker is normally. You can pair it with any card and the hand is Sabacc. There’s only one Sylop card in the two main decks (orange and red) so your chances of getting a Sylop is minimal. Two Sylops make a Pure Sabacc which is arguably the best hand in Kessel Sabacc.

The Imposter is a card which lets the player roll two dice to form a hand. If you have a 4 and an Imposter, you can roll the two dice and hope for a 4. If luck favors you, you will have Sabacc.

End of a round in Kessel Sabacc

At the end of every round, all the players show their hands. The winner is the one with the lowest hand. They get all their chips back while everyone else on the table is taxed. If you lose with a Sabacc, you are only required to give one chip. Others have to put in all the chips they played with in that round.

Tips to become a pro at Kessel Sabacc

Analyze others’ Shift Tokens

Take a good look at the type of Shift Tokens other players at the table are using. Once you have an idea, you can form your strategy such that it is in line with what’s going on in the game.

Retain Chips

Remember, the goal is to always have chips. Use the Refund Shift Token as a helpline. It will immediately refund two played chips. When you are down to your final stock, use it to be on the safe side.

If there are fewer chips on the table, you can either use Shift Tokens to eliminate players or preserve your chips. There’s no need to rush so make sure to use your Shifts wisely.

Cheating

You can either win fair and square or turn things in your favor. Your furry companion Nix can take a look at others’ hands. Once you know who has what, you can easily take out the table one by one.

In order to cheat successfully, you must complete a QTE. The first time you fail, the rest of the players will grow suspicious of you. After repeated fails, you can even get banned from that table.

Read your opponents

Everyone has tells. Whether it is a smirk or something subtle like a nod, you can usually tell what kind of a hand one has. If a player has a full blown tantrum, they definitely do not have the winning hand. If one looks content, they might have a strong pair.

That’s all you need to know about Kessel Sabacc. May the luck be in your favor!
