Inuyasha follows the adventures of high school student Kagome Higurashi and the half-demon Inuyasha as they search for shards of the Shikon Jewel.
With the last installation, i.e., Inuyasha: The Final Act, the series secured its place as one of the most beloved cult classics in the Shonen genre.
With around 200 episodes, it is host to a large number of stunning battles, unique setting, complex backstories, and quirky characters.
Among them, the main character, Inuyasha, is the most interesting and beloved of all.
We have seen his growth throughout the journey and fallen in love with his impulsive, headstrong, and compassionate personality.
Despite being born a hanyo, he did not resign himself to fate and constantly strived to do better.
As a result, by the end, he beat everyone in the story. However, despite possessing overwhelming power and becoming one of the strongest characters in the series, has he surpassed his half-brother Sesshomaru?
1. Is Sesshomaru Stronger Than Inuyasha?
We have seen Inuyasha’s growth throughout the series, and though his actions were impulsive and sometimes beyond reason, his strength has increased tremendously.
As the son of a powerful Dog Demon, he naturally possesses an enormous amount of demonic power.
His senses, such as hearing, sight, and smell, are all enhanced, and he has the ability to heal incredibly fast. However, being born a hanyo, his powers fall short when compared to his half-brother.
While Inuyasha is strong in his own right, Sesshomaru is a pure-blooded demon, and after manifesting Bakusaiga, he becomes leaps and bounds more powerful than the former.
2. How Strong is Sesshomaru?
Sesshomaru is the strongest character in the series and one of the only demons who did not care for or covet the Shikon Jewel’s power.
Even the all-powerful Naraku feared Sesshomaru’s power and attempted to absorb him into his being.
The only thing that constantly held Sesshomaru back from reaching his true potential was his obsession with his father’s power and the Tessaiga.
Once he let go of his obsession, he was able to regrow his arm and manifest a sword with his own power, the Bakusaiga. This sword was extremely powerful and was much more destructive than Tessaiga.
With the Tenseiga that cuts unearthly beings and the Bakusaiga that cuts the earthly beings, Sesshomaru, by all intents and purposes, is invincible.
I. Powers & Abilities
Other than his incredible swordsmanship, Sesshomaru possesses great strength. He has repeatedly overpowered Inuyasha, and his strength with only one arm was equal to the hanyo’s maximum strength.
His physical abilities, raw demonic power, and abilities are all greater than his brother.
Being a pure-blooded dog demon, Sesshomaru’s demonic powers are such that on top of possessing one of the most lethal miasmas, he can also nullify demonic auras in an instant.
By just scratching with his claw-like fingernails, he can release a potent poison to melt his enemies, and with a light swipe, kill multitudes of demons in moments.
Furthermore, Sesshomaru can generate a thin, whip-like strand of energy from his fingertips, which in its lethal form can puncture armor and flesh with ease as well as burn them upon contact.
While he often assumes his human form due to its superior agility, as a Daiyokai, Sesshomaru has the ability to transform into a huge dog possessing tremendous destructive power anytime he wants.
While in this form, he can poison his enemies using his fangs, as well as with his saliva that can turn into poisonous miasma.
All of these abilities, coupled with his weapon, Bakusaiga (one of the strongest swords), keen intellect and experience, Sesshomaru is way too powerful, and one can only wonder what would have happened if he truly became an antagonist in the end.
3. How Strong is Inuyasha?
Despite being born a hanyo and struggling against powerful full-fledged demons through the majority of the series, Inuyasha never resigned himself to his fate and continued training.
As a result, his power allowed him to wield and unleash Bakuryuha, Kongosoha, and Meido Zangetsuha with his father’s Tessaiga.
He even went on to surpass the latter by defeating the powerful daiyokai, Ryukotsusei, who not even toga could defeat.
By the end, he beat everyone in the story, including legendary figures like Magatsuhi and Demon of the Shikon no Tama.
Even now, he is still getting stronger and is the most powerful character in the series after Sesshomaru.
I. Powers & Abilities
Being the Great Demon General’s son, Inuyasha stands amongst the most powerful demons in the series and boasts a tremendous amount of demonic power.
He can easily dispatch most low-tier demons, including those strengthened by the Shikon Jewel shard.
After gaining the Tessaiga, and learning how to wield it, Inuyasha was able to unleash its Kaze no kizu which allowed him to slay 100 demons with a single strike.
Throughout the series, he mastered powerful techniques such as the Bakuryuha, Kongosoha, and Meido Zangetsuha.
Furthermore, due to his love for Kagome and his fang to Tessaiga, Inuyasha was able to push the sword’s power to new heights and truly make it his own.
In terms of skills, Inuyasha is very experienced in unarmed combat and relies more on brute force than any martial arts type. He has a large pool of abilities that he can utilize and adapt according to different situations.
He also developed his mastery over swordsmanship and was soon able to contend against Sesshomaru in battle.
While he can not transform into a dog, thanks to his identity as a human-demon hybrid, whenever his life is in mortal danger, he transforms into a full-fledged demon.
In this form, his physical strength more than doubles. This was seen when with a single attack, he was able to eviscerate Goshinki and Gatenmaru.
In addition, his regenerative abilities are boosted, which allows him to recover immediately, even after suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Most notably, his mastery over Tessaiga also increases, which allows him to combine Kaze no Kizu with Kongosoha, as well as enhance the sword’s barrier-piercing effect.
By the end of the series, even without becoming a full-fledged demon, he defeats all of his enemies and grows stronger.
