Nun II producer James Wan reveals the fate of Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) and Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet) and how they reunite in the second film.
The first Nun movie teased that the demonic Valak resides inside Frenchie after wreaking havoc on the family. Four years later, the Valak draws Irene back into the darkness, where she must face the unspeakable horrors of The Conjuring Universe’s most sinister enemy.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Wan elaborates on how Irene and Frenchie meet in Nun II in an unexpected turn of events. The Conjuring Universe creator further reveals where the duo was before the film began and how they ended up after the film. Check out his comments below:
Frenchie has moved on from the first film and he is at a Catholic school as a groundskeeper-handyman. But we saw that at the end of the first movie that the evil was still with him. It’s slowly percolating, coming back to the forefront. He realizes that there’s only one person that can really help him, and he reaches out to Taissa Farmiga’s character. I love this platonic friendship that the two of them have. She cares very much for him, and she wants to do everything she can to help him. At the same time, she has to confront this evil and fight it again.
Nun II will see Irene and Frenchie squaring up against the nefarious Valak in its iconic Nun form. Two iconic cast members, Storm Reid, and Anna Popplewell will also start their journey in the Conjuring universe with Nun II. The film will unleash terror on September 8, just in time to haunt your nightmares this Halloween.
Since the Nun II is a part of the Conjuring Universe, it will undoubtedly have references from past franchise films, including The Conjuring Trilogy and the Anabelle Trilogy. Valak still lurks inside Frenchie, and we think the end of Irene and Frenchie’s partnership will not be a happy one.
The Nun II is the first Conjuring film since 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Since the makers are going for an exclusive theatrical release, the performance of Nun II could define the future of the Conjuring franchise once and for all.
With Irene, Valak, and Frenchie returning, it seems like a homecoming for all major Conjuring characters, and a massive horror fest is surely on the cards!
