How Old is Rudeus in Seasons 1 and 2 of Mushoku Tensei? Age of Every Main Character

The popular isekai anime, “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation”, is certainly one of the best anime in the fantasy and isekai genre. Although this anime has had its fair share of weird moments, Mushoku Tensei has offered fans a promising plot, great animation, and good fan service. Isn’t that more than enough reason to watch the anime?

One thing that may have been confusing in the premise of Mushoku Tensei is the time skips that have happened a few times within the anime. Rudeus started out as an infant in the store. However, now, after the second season has ended, he is an active member of the University of Magic with a wife and a child.

In this article, we will go through each timeline, highlighting the ages of Rudeus and other main characters to clear any existing doubt on the matter.

First Season of Mushoku Tensei

Cour 1:

Season 1 of Mushoku Tensei started with our main character getting isekai’d (he got run over by a bus and was reincarnated in another world). He found himself in the body of a newborn baby being cradled in the hands of his parents.

A few months after this, Sylphiette was born. Hence, Rudeus is a few months older than Sylphiette.

One year after this, Rudeus learns how to read their particular language, and he is capable of reading books.

At the age of two, Rudeus starts to use magic with the help of a book he found at home. He noticed his total amount of mana increasing and also becomes capable of using magic without chanting.

At the age of three, Roxy starts to stay with Rudeus, and he starts officially learning magic from her. His rapid learning rate and chantless incantation has her really shocked.

Meanwhile, Paul (Rudeus’ father) finds it necessary to also learn swordsmanship and hence undergoes training for the same.

When he was 5 years old, he met Sylphiette. She gets fascinated by magic and they both become friends as Rudeus starts teaching her magic.

At this point, Roxy(she was over 40 years of age at this point) tells Rudeus that she has taught him most of what she knows and declares Rudeus to be a water Saint-Class magician.

At 7 years of age, Rudeus is made to leave the house and stay in the house of Boreas Greyrat in the Fittoa Region, where he meets Eris. Here, he starts teaching Eris magic and learns about the sword under Ghislaine.

The day after Rudeus became 10 years old, the mana disaster occurred, causing Eris and himself to get teleported to the Demon Continent. At this point, Eris is 12 years old.

They both meet the Superd man, Ruijerd, and he takes it upon himself to get them home safely.

From this moment to most of the incidents that transpired afterward till his reunion with Aisha and Norn happened when he was 10 years old.

Cour 2:

He was about 12 years old when he encountered Oersted, the dragon God. He was almost killed at this point but revived due to Nanahoshi’s intervention.

Season 1 of Mushoku Tensei concluded after Rudeus and Roxy returned to the Fittoa region. Roxy leaves Rudeus here with his trauma and ED. Rudeus was 12 years old at this point.

Season 2

Cour 1

With Rudeus’ new goal of finding his mom, he travels to the Central Continent, where he joins a party called the Counter Arrow and starts to do quests with them. Rudeus is 13 years old at this point.

After a year of his activities in this region, he reunites with Elinalise. At this point, he gets an invitation letter from the Ranoa Magic University, with a special offer to join as a student with a scholarship. With the Human god’s insistence, he and Elinalise join the university.

At this point, Rudeus is close to 15 years of age and he is doing his research on the mana calamity at the University. He meets Nanahoshi, and they together research the teleport incident. He also parallelly tries to fix his ED issue.

Rudeus acquaints himself with a senior, Fittz who he greatly respects and adores. With Zanoba, Linia, Pursena, Elinalise, and Cliff, Rudeus establishes his friend group in the academy.

A year after his enrollment in the Ranoa Magic University, Rudeus learns the true identity of Fitz, who is actually Sylphy. They fall in love, and Sylphy cures Rudeus’ ED.

Cour 2:

In the latest season of Mushoku Tensei, Rudeus (16 years of age) bought a house and married Sylphy. They started living as a happy family in the mansion.

Later, Paul sent Aisha and Norn to live with Rudeus, where they were made to join the Ranoa Magic University. The two are 10 years old at this point.

The same year, Rudeus travels to the Begaritt Continent to save his mother. In the process of saving his mother, Paul dies, and they find out that Zenith (about 32 years old), Rudeus’ mother, has lost her memories.

While trying to find Zenith, Rudeus reunites with Roxy after several years. They have their special moment while Roxy tries to cheer Rudeus up after his father’s death. On returning, Rudeus asks Sylphy’s permission to marry Roxy(she is in her mid-forties at this point).

“Jobless Reincarnation: I Will Seriously Try If I Go To Another World” is an isekai light novel series that was initially published on Shosetsuka ni Naro since November 2012 before Media Factory started publishing under its MF’s Book Imprint in January 2014.

The light novel series wreaked havoc, and it was a success; soon after, i.e., in May 2014, Media Factory started serialization in its magazine ‘Monthly Comic Flapper’. Many spin-off manga have been launched that connect with the same universe.

After more than half a decade, the light novel series was adapted into an anime television series by Studio Bind in 2021.
