Disney+’s Percy Jackson And The Olympians Season 1 episode count seems promising for a more elaborate adaptation of the original source material.
Author Rick Riordan has provided important updates via his blog, revealing that Season 1 will consist of eight episodes.
As the series will be based on Riordan’s novel series Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the author is working closely with the show makers and will also write the pilot with Jon Steinberg.
The Disney+ series, which had an undecided fate since 2020, was officially greenlit earlier in January.
With production on Season 1 beginning in June in Vancouver, Riordan provided a few quick updates after spending last week in the city he renamed “Northwest Laistrygonia” to set up his office and workspace for the production period.
“Script work is also coming along nicely. We have scripts for the first four episodes pretty much done, and are hard at work on the remaining four of Season one.
The writers’ room continues, but now I have a much more impressive backdrop for our Zoom meetings.”

The author also revealed that he had a meeting with the props and costume departments to see what they are currently working on.
The department is taking great care of each minute detail. Riordan mentioned how they’re thinking hard about deciding things like the kind of backpack Percy uses, the type of sheath for Annabeth’s dagger, Grover’s clothing choices, and the pattern for Chiron’s sweater vest.
The series’ concept art, including the monsters, the world environments, etc., is also coming along well, with the author calling it “pretty spectacular stuff.”
As the series is still in its early days, Riordan didn’t discuss things in great detail but added that they’re “very close” to casting the main trio and that the search for other characters from The Lightning Thief book is still ongoing.
Recently, Midgard Times revealed that all the directors for Season 1 were confirmed.
James Bobin would be leading the pilot episode, with Anders Engstrom and Jet Wilkinson joining the team. However, it is unclear how the episodes will be split among the three directors.
Percy Jackson And The Olympians does not have a release date yet. As production is expected to continue till January 2023, we’re still a long way from getting anything close to a first look or a trailer.
