Often deemed as one of the greatest survival horror games of all time, Resident Evil 4 returns, completely rebuilt and reimagined as the fourth entry in the Resident Evil series. The game puts players back into the shoes of Leon S. Kennedy after the events of Resident Evil 2.
Resident Evil 4 Remake contains a total of sixteen chapters, double than the original Resident Evil 4 which released back in 2005. In the game, players make their way through three key areas: the village, the castle and the island.
Players are given the chance to save their progress once after the end of each chapter. It’s worth noting that not all of the sixteen chapters are of the same length. Chapters at the end of the game tend to be shorter and more dynamic.
How long does it take to beat Resident Evil 4 Remake? Is it the longest in the series?
An average playthrough of Resident Evil 4 Remake takes around 15-20 hours to beat, which makes it the second longest game in the series behind Resident Evil 6. A completionist run of RE 4 Remake may take around 35-40 hours. Depending on the difficulty, it may take even longer.
Harder difficulties such as Hardcore mode or Professional mode for Resident Evil 4 Remake may take longer to complete. The Professional mode isn’t available from the get-go. To unlock this mode, players need to finish the game at least once on any difficulty.
Is there a Point of No Return in Resident Evil 4 Remake?
There are several points of no return in Resident Evil 4 Remake, namely in Chapters 4,5,12 and 16. Sometimes, the Merchant will warn the players when they are about to cross the point of no return. Once crossed, players cannot backtrack to previous areas.
Here are all the Points of No Return in Resident Evil 4 Remake:
I. Chapter 4 Point of No Return – El Gigante Boss Fight
After defeating El Gigante, the next objective will require players to head to The Church to progress the story. From that point onwards, The Lake won’t be accessible.
II. Chapter 5 Point of No Return – The Bridge
Towards the end of Chapter 5, before reaching the old house where you’ll have to stand your ground against Ganados, you’ll have to cross a bridge in order to reach the house. Once you’ve crossed this bridge, you cannot backtrack to previous areas in The Village.
III. Chapter 12 Point of No Return – The Clocktower
In Chapter 12, you’ll need to climb up to the top of the Clocktower with the help of an elevator. Once you activate this elevator, you cannot go back to the previous areas of The Castle.
IV. Chapter 16 Point of No Return – The Elevator
Since Chapter 16 is the last chapter in Resident Evil 4 Remake, it makes sense for it to have a point of no return. Shortly into Chapter 16, you’ll meet the Merchant where you’ll need to stock everything up before the final boss. Just after meeting the Merchant, you’ll be required to enter an elevator.
Entering this elevator will trigger a cutscene, leading to the final boss fight of the game. If you want to explore The Island a bit more, then avoid this elevator at all costs.
Does Resident Evil 4 Remake have New Game Plus?
Resident Evil 4 Remake does feature a New Game Plus. In subsequent playthroughs, all your weapons, ammo, money, upgraded weaponry, healing items, and treasures will carry over, adding a ton of replay value to the game. This will help you to tackle higher difficulties with ease.
However, players have to keep in mind that side quests progression do not carry over in the subsequent NG+ playthroughs. You’ll have to redo all the side quests in its entirety. It may sound like a daunting task but with Leon’s arsenal of fully upgraded weapons, it’s going to be a cakewalk for the supercop.
