We have been introduced to a few of the Legendary Aces in the anime. The main character of the Plunderer series, Licht, is the strongest of all Aces and is called the Flash Baron due to his lightning-fast moves and speed.
While we know that the Aces, also known as Red Barons, are amongst the most powerful people on Althea, there are still quite a few questions about their origin and powers.
1. What is a Legendary Ace?
Legendary Red Barons, also known as the Legendary Aces, were the heroes of the Abandonment War 300 years ago. There are seven original Barons and seven new generation Barons.
The seven original Barons were created by surgically modifying them by implanting and grafting their bodies with the genes of Schmelman Bach’s who was naturally genetically compatible with accessing and drawing out the energies of the “Althing” since birth.
It is later revealed that the Red Barons were created before the Abandonment War even began, in an experiment known as the “Aerial Ace Project”.
2. Who are the Legendary Aces?
The original Legendary Aces are
- Licht Bach (Ace of flashing strikes)
- Alexandrov Grigorovich (Ace of Explosive Strikes)
- Douan Taketora (Ace of Heavy Strikes)
- Sakai Tokikaze (Ace of Sudden Strikes)
- Sonohara Mizuka (Ace of Pursuit)
- Nana Bassler (Ace of Knowing)
- Gespenst Zerlegen (Pierce Baron)
They were the heroes of the Abandonment War 300 years ago.
I. The Baron Surgery
The seven original Barons were created by surgically modifying their bodies by implanting and grafting them with the genes of Schmelman Bach’s who was naturally capable of accessing and drawing out the energies of the “Althing” since birth.
Upon being given the surgeries, the Seven were then artificially given the same ability to do so as well, allowing them to obtain superhuman powers and abilities without actually needing a Ballot Replica.
Additionally, the seven successful Aces also obtained the power to tap into Schmelman’s ‘bloodlust‘ allowing them to increase their power in exchange for their sanity and self-control.
However, unlike the later methods, the original Baron Surgery first needed to be genetically compatible with the surgeries’ requirements.
II. Who is the strongest Ace?
Licht is one of the 7 Legendary Red Barons, known as “The Flash Baron.” They are also known as the Legendary Ace or the Fabled Ace – a result of their heroic acts during the Abandonment War 300 years ago.
Even amongst these heroes of superhero strength, Licht Bach is the strongest of them all. According to the other legendary Barons, Alexandria, Gespenst, and Avsette – Licht Bach is the strongest Baron despite the rest of their counts.
Licht Bach’s ability as a Baron is his enhanced legs that can move at incredibly high speeds. He’s able to move even faster than light and sound. After activating Schmelman’s bloodlust, Licht can destroy people at an atomic level.
3. New generation of Aces
The new generation of Aces are people who consumed the Red Baron’s drug. The drug granted the newly created barons “superior” power in comparison to the old due to the drug and also automatically granting them a Count of 500000, a count superior to that of the original seven.
The new generation of Aces are
- Ichinose Saki
- Akui Genji
- Suda Kyouhei
- Sumiya Asumi
- Narumiya Kyouka
- Sechs
- Sieben.
4. Red Baron’s drug
300 years later, after decades of study and experimentation in Althea and trying to improve the Baron Surgery and make it available to all without screening anyone genetically, Tsukina Farrow and Firenda successfully created a Drug that allows any user that takes it to be transformed into a Red Baron without rejection.
Granting the newly created barons ‘superior’ power in comparison to the old due to the drug and also automatically granting them a Count of 500000 which is superior to that of the original seven.
However, despite these improvements, there were still a few key differences that made the newly created Baron’s inferior to that of the originals.
The first being that unlike the seven original Baron’s, the count of the newly created ones is completely frozen at 500000. This prevents their count from going up any higher even if they utilize a Ballot Replica to multiply it.
The second difference is that unlike the seven originals, the new Barons do not have access to Schmelman’s “bloodlust” preventing them from gaining the same explosive power boost the original seven Barons can gain in mid-battle by activating and tapping into their inherited innate bloodlust.
5. About Plunderer
Plunderer is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Suu Minazuki. It began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine on December 26, 2014.
The story starts in the 305th year of the Alcian calendar. The world is controlled by seemingly random numbers, with every person owning their own “Count.”
On a more in-depth look, it is discovered that a Count is a number decided by an arbitrary logic. If the Count drops to 0, you’re sent into the Abyss.
