Season 2 of How I Met Your Father has been released, bringing double the treat for us! With 20 episodes (double the number of episodes of Season 1), our favorite sitcom is halfway through the second season of its run.
For the uninitiated, How I Met Your Father is a spin-off of How I Met Your Mother (as you would probably have guessed). It has our favorite, Hilary Duff, playing the protagonist, Sophie, who is a hopeless romantic searching for love (relatability alert!). Set in Manhattan, the series delves into the lives of Sophie and her friends and their struggles and successes in relationships.
Premiered in 2022, the show came to our rescue during the pandemic. It was the fifth most-watched original series in the US (no points for guessing why!). So what are you waiting for? Watch the series now!
Episode 9 of Season 2 of How I Met Your Father titled ‘The Welcome Protocol’ saw Sophie getting a new romantic interest. Valentina gets into trouble with her client but is able to save the day. Jesse reveals that he feels something significant for Sophie.
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 9 Recap
HIMYF S2 Ep 9 featured Valentina and Sophie going to a musical. The former gets into trouble with her client but sorts everything out. Sophie bonds with a chef, giving her a new love interest. Jesse brings Dana to the group but later reveals he has feeling for Sophie.
As the episode begins, the group is at Pemberton. Valentina has received tickets to a musical as an added perk of her promotion in Episode 6. To decide who will be her plus-one, Sophie, Charlie, Ellen, Sid, and Jesse have a pushup contest. Sophie powers through her pushups and even attempts one-arm pushups, as the others give up in exhaustion, and wins the extra ticket.
Sophie and Valentina arrive at the venue of the musical, where Sophie has an encounter with a chef. They then meet Daphne, Valentina’s client, and notice someone else wearing the same dress as her at the reception.
To save the situation, Sophie and Valentina come up with a plan. The former spills sauce on the other person wearing the same outfit and persuade her to wear an overcoat to cover it up. But as they think they have saved the day, Valentina spots yet another wearing the same dress.
They attempt the same charade on the second person and try to get her to swap dresses with Sophie. After a lot of persuasion and tricks, she agrees, and Sophie takes off her dress in a supply room and gives it to Valentina. The latter takes the dress to the person in question.
However, the person has already seen Daphne and feels exuberant about her clothing choice. She also sees the first person. Valentina wishes for a break, but right then, Daphne sees them and berates Valentina for the lack of uniqueness of her outfit.
In Daphne’s dressing room, she declares that Valentina is an incompetent junior stylist and claims that she will ruin Valentina’s career. In anger and frustration, Daphne outs her reps as to be blamed for her current situation. This causes Daphne to admit she is cutthroat and prompts Valentina to devise an idea to save Daphne and herself.
Before Daphne’s performance begins, they call the other two identically dressed women onto the stage, and Daphne announces that she is proud to share the stage with impeccably dressed women. This turns public favor to her side, and Valentina’s plan is successful.
Meanwhile, the chef walks into the supply room (which is a pantry). Sophie screams at him to turn around and immediately does that. He helps her by giving her a chef’s coat to cover herself, and they bond in the pantry.
In Pemberton, Jesse invokes The Welcome Protocol, a well-thought-out complex plan to dazzle new love interests, and brings Dana to the group. The rest of the group is delighted at having her there, but to their disappointment, Jesse decides that she doesn’t have ‘it’ and initiates the Fake Emergency Protocol.
At the same time, Dana does the same, and Jesse congratulates her for coming up with it. However, it is an actual situation, and Dana dumps Jesse. Later, Jesse reveals to Ellen that he is trying unsuccessfully to get over Sophie.
What happens at the end of HIMYF Season 2 Episode 9?
The ending of HIMYF S2 Ep 9 has a new dating prospect for Sophie: Robert, a chef. Valentina is able to save her client’s reputation and her career. Jesse accidentally ruins his relationship with Dana and reveals his strong feelings for Sophie.
In Episode 9 of How I Met Your Father Season 2, Sophie gains a new love interest, a chef named Robert, who she bonds with in the episode. He helps her in the pantry, and they converse with each other, revealing a chemistry between them. He clarifies that he wishes to go on a dinner date with her. The episode ends with her kissing him.
Valentina is able to save the day and Daphne’s reputation. As there are two similarly dressed people at the musical, she plans to invite them both on stage and have Daphne praise them in front of everybody. This gains the crowd’s favor, and all is well for Valentina’s career.
Jesse introduces Dana to the group but, in the middle, changes his mind about going forward with her and revokes The Welcome Protocol. The Fake Emergency Protocol goes as planned when one of Dana’s relatives arrives and says her grandmother is hospitalized. Jesse thinks this is a fake emergency too, and comments about it. This angers Dana, who dumps him.
The day’s events sadden Jesse and Ellen questions why he rushed into going forward with Dana. Jesse confesses that it is not because of Meredith but rather because of the sparks he has felt with Sophie in the last two episodes. That he rushed into things to move over Sophie.
