Sophie’s father’s absence has always been hard for her, but she still keeps a hopeful eye out for love and doesn’t hate Valentine’s Day. Maybe that’s why we see a flashforward of her and Ian at a V-Day dinner or is this alluding to the biggest question of the show – who is the father of her child?
A good way to spend their day of love, with caring friends who cheer you up with crappy stories, but what is next?
1. Episode 8 Synopsis/Speculation
Jesse and Sid introduce the gang to an old college ritual where they spend the next 48 hours attempting to complete various tasks in order to achieve a group “rewardishment.”
Jesse is single, Sophie is single, and they just had a conversation about how Sophie was someone special despite his habit of saying “I love you” too soon. Does this mean there’s hope for the friends-to-lovers trope after all?
But we just saw in the future, probably by next Valentine’s, Ian and Sophie will be back together. So, is Ian “The One” in Sophie’s life? Of course, there’ll be other dates, including one where she’ll doubt that she might be dating her father – talk about an awkward reunion.
Like most of you, I don’t know who will end up as the father of Sophie’s child, but next week’s episode will be great, considering it will be one where we’ll see the entire group performing activities together.
What will be the rewardishment? Will we see Barney Stinson again? Who is Sophie going to date next?

5. Episode 7 Recap
Rachel has to visit her aunt, who broke her back, and Ellen is left alone on Valentine’s Day. Trying to cheer her up, the gang convenes at Sid’s bar and revisits terrible dating experiences on the day of love.
Sophie and Valentina recount dating a guy in college who was cheating on them both by dating the other, and their joint attack on him is what began their journey as best friends. Sid and Hannah were spending their first Valentine’s after getting hitched apart, so Sid recounted the time in college when he and Hannah finally went exclusive.
Charlie tells the gang about the time he was stood up after visiting another country, and Hannah surprises Sid by making it back while Ellen receives dinner from Rachel, which they share over Facetime.
Jesse tells about how he kept saying I love you to different girls before even knowing them well enough, which triggers rage in Sophie, who had always thought that it was something special Jesse had done only with her.
Jesse explained how she’ll always be special to him, and the two make up. Future Sophie explains to her son that despite everything, it was a good V-Day, and we cut to a flashforward where Ian and Sophie share dinner on the day of love.
6. About How I Met Your Father
How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is a spinoff series of the incredibly successful CBS show, How I Met Your Mother. The original show ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, quickly making its mark with a dedicated cult-like fanbase.
HIMYF was announced to start production in April 2021 with the Lizzy McGuire star Hilary Duff playing the lead called Sophie, narrating her journey to her children in the future.
The show’s flashbacks will start from Sophie and her close friends navigating love, life and struggles in the modern era of dating, paying bills and more, in 2021.
Created by writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of This Is Us fame and directed by the original show’s director, Pamela Fryman, the first season of HIMYF is revealed to have 10 episodes. No further details have yet been released.
