Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under its Portkey Games label. It is currently available to play on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S.
After releasing on February 10, 2023, the game quickly took the internet by storm. And it’s no surprise that it did since it is a game set in the Wizarding World universe of the extremely popular Harry Potter novels.
The game is fairly new so I’m sure you’ve got a lot of questions about it. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
Here’s everything you need to know about choosing a Hogwarts House and the possible effect it could have on the game.
1. Does House choice matter in Hogwarts Legacy?
Although there are clear distinctions between the Houses, the choice you make in Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t matter as the game remains the same for everyone.
The four Hogwarts Houses from the Harry Potter universe are:
- Gryffindor: known for bravery, nerve and chivalry
- Hufflepuff: known for dedication, patience and loyalty
- Ravenclaw: known for intelligence, curiosity and creativity
- Slytherin: known for ambition, self-preservation and ruthlessness
A House is assigned to you by the Sorting Hat based on how you answer a few questions that the game gives you. You could either keep the House you are initially assigned, or you could answer the same questions again in a different way if there’s a specific House you’re hoping for.
Essentially, you get to pick your own House, despite this not being the way Houses are assigned in the novels or movies.
2. What are the story differences among the houses?
There are only a few minor differences between them which I will tell you about now.
For starters, the obvious biggest difference is the House colours. You’ll get robes and scarves in the colour of the House you choose i.e., Red for Gryffindor, Yellow for Hufflepuff, Blue for Ravenclaw and Green for Slytherin. Besides these, you’ll also have the option to choose from plenty of other generic outfits.
The Common Rooms for each House are distinctively designed to match the aesthetics and themes of their respective Houses. You won’t be spending much time in these Rooms, but it is interesting to observe all the details that went into each of them.
The final difference involves one of the quests that happens after around 14 main quests of the game. In this quest, you’ll have to find a ghost and some missing pages. Players from Hufflepuff get to catch a glimpse of Azkaban while on this quest, but it’s only for a brief period and it doesn’t have much of an impact on the rest of the game.
The creators of the game have designed it in such a way that the experience remains the same for everyone irrespective of the House they choose. So, there’s really nothing to miss out on.
3. Can you change Houses mid-game?
Unfortunately, you cannot change your Hogwarts house mid-game in Hogwarts Legacy. You’ll just have to be extremely sure of your choice while selecting in the beginning.
Although, it won’t matter at the end of the game, as I have mentioned already.
4. About Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG from Avalanche Studio. The game places the player in the wizarding school of Hogwarts, allowing them to witness the iconic locations as a character other than Harry Potter.
The game has an expansive map that makes the game very immersive, even for people who are yet to read the books or watched the movie.
The mysterious, gripping storyline, with the vast areas to explored, either on foot or broomstick, makes it even more real life.
