Rent-A-Girlfriend just dropped a bombshell in Chapters 221 and 222, and; fans are left wondering what Mami’s going to do next.
You might be thinking: “Mami again?”
Yup, you’re right!
Although I’m aware that not many people in the fandom like her, Mami is the steamy topic of this rom-com series.
She’s “hot topic” right now not because she’s the hottest girl out there in a sexy two-piece white swimsuit; rather, because of her strategic play against Kazuya and Chizuru.
So, without further ado, let us dive into the world of Rent-A-Girlfriend and explore some delicious updates on the series’ latest chapters.
How did Mami Expose the Rental Relationship?
Mami intentionally revealed Kazuya and Chizuru’s rental relationship to Grandma Nagomi and Kazuya’s family. She pretended she accidentally dropped her cellphone; in reality, it was only really a ploy to reveal the truth.
When Grandma Nagomi found her gadget, Mami’s cellphone displayed the rental girlfriends’ profiles, including Chizuru’s.
Mami was luring the Kinoshita family to witness firsthand Chizuru’s Rental Girlfriend status. Everyone was in shock when they saw the website displaying Chizuru’s profile.
Not only is her profile beautifully displayed for everyone to see; she is also the #1 rental girlfriend in Diamond (the agency that provides rental girlfriends to clients like Kazuya).
It was a humiliating scenario for the rental lovebirds. Chizuru and Kazuya tried to escape the scene quietly, but they were trapped.
Kazuo Kinoshita (Kazuya’s dad) recalled the time when he witnessed his son handing money to Chizuru.
Harumi (Kazuya’s mom) was also shocked to hear such an outrageous scenario happening outside of Kazuya’s apartment. She’s extremely worried as she gifted Chizuru the wedding ring that she inherited from Nagomi Kinoshita (Kazuya’s grandma).
Did Mami set Everything up?
Mami’s cunning plan is a bombshell: she set the pool paradise as the “stage” for the big reveal while entangling Kazuya’s college friends, Ruka (a former rental girlfriend), Chizuru, and Kazuya’s family in the fray.
Her “performance” is also magnificent! She wailed like a child so the bystanders could hear her somber cries and regrets. She cried about “feeling sorry” for the Kinoshita family all the while exposing the rotten truth in front of them.
Chizuru is the one attending and paying high acting fees for theatrical performances. So, it’s ironic how great of an actress Mami is when she exposed every tiny detail of the rental relationship to Kazuya’s family.
Mami hid nothing from the Kinoshita family. She left no detail behind and exposed the deepest darkest secrets of the rental couple.
Every word that came out of Mami’s mouth dumbfounded Kazuya to the point that it humiliated Chizuru.
But the pointiest dagger that sliced the rental couple is when Mami called Chizuru a con artist and pinpointed the entire blame to her to save Kazuya’s skin.
She frightens me. And it became hard to sleep at night knowing how Chizuru is draining Kazuya’s hard-earned money and conning the Kinoshita family.
I pleaded several times to Chizuru that she ‘stop the acting’, but she never listened! She’s been conning him and the Kinoshita family while putting on happy and smiling faces!
That was Mami’s wailing speech that sunk Chizuru’s dignity and betrayed Kazuya’s faith.
My mouth was gaping the entire time I was reading Chapter 222. There’s no coming back from this, and I can’t wait for the next Rent-A-Girlfriend chapter to drop next week.
Will Chizuru Terminate Kazuya’s Rental Contract?
After the big reveal, Chizuru will likely terminate Kazuya’s rental contract. She will plead Diamond, the rental agency, to:
- ban Kazuya from renting her; and
- ban him from renting the other Diamond rental girlfriends as well.
We’ve all known for a long time that the cat’s gonna come out of the bag, but I didn’t expect it to come this soon.
Well, these chapters will comprise Volume 26; so, I guess it’s worth the wait.
If these events don’t happen in manga canon, it’s still likely that there will be several low points for the characters: Kazuya will be depressed; Chizuru will cry again, and; the Kinoshita family will feel this lingering humiliation and disappointment hanging onto them like a grey cloud.
Many supporting characters, like Ruka and Sumi, will be down in the dumps. But they will still show up from time to time to show support and cheer on the main cast.
Mami will probably be the only one laughing. But sooner or later, we know our girl, Chizuru, will gather the courage to confront her and face her off one last time.
Will Kazuya get Disowned by his Family?
Kazuya will likely get disowned by his family for spending thousands of yen to rent a high-class girlfriend.
It’s a severe punishment, but one that he deserves for keeping the rental relationship a secret from his family for 1 ½ years. This is probably one redeeming act he could do to make amends to his family.
Asking for Chizuru’s forgiveness is another thing. That’s a different beast he needs to creatively tackle to get back in any kind of friendly relations he’d still like to have with her.
Disowning Kazuya seems a reasonable punishment to a certain extent. He deserves it anyway since he’s not officially going out with Chizuru.
Despite the gloom-and-doom of the upcoming chapters, I still have faith in Reiji Miyajima and the plot armor he has for the series: he’ll give us solid chapters until the very end to ensure Kazuya’s future is romantically secured with Chizuru.
