Fans who were thrilled to see the Hulk in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law also noticed one key point: Not only do we have the Smart Hulk on screen, but he was faster, stronger, and healthier than ever before!
Why was this important? Well, as per his last MCU appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Bruce was in his human form still nursing an injured arm. The injury was courtesy of snapping his fingers while wearing the Infinity gauntlet.
So how did his arm heal so quickly, right in time for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law?
In She-Hulk Ep 1, Bruce learns that Jennifer’s DNA synthesizes gamma rays in a different way than his. He studies her blood to come up with a solution that heals his arm and returns him to peak condition.
When we meet Bruce in She-Hulk Ep 1, he looks a lot like what he did in Shang-Chi — All in his human form, arm in a sling. There is one additional gadget attached to him, on his other arm.
As he goes on to explain, this is a prototype of an inhibitor that can keep his two egos/personas of Bruce and the Hulk separate. This way, he can “choose” at will which form he wants to be in.
Of course, right as we get this explanation, the world goes topsy-turvy. They go through a car accident, which results in Bruce’s inhibitor breaking apart and him bleeding onto Jennifer. This facilitates her transformation into the She-Hulk.
Once they’re reunited and sufficiently rested, Bruce reveals a couple of things to Jen, starting with the fact that them being related is a good thing, because that’s the only reason why Jen’s body could handle the gamma blood transfusions, which would’ve otherwise been lethal to anybody else.
Upon studying Jennifer’s blood further, Bruce realizes that the way her DNA synthesizes gamma rays differs from his. In some capacity, he found a way to use these properties to even create a solution that would completely heal his Infinity gauntlet-wrecked arm.
Of course, Jennifer takes this moment to scoff that her Hulk blood is “better” than her cousin’s.
What Bruce doesn’t do is get into all the details of how exactly Jennifer’s DNA is different, or how this healing/restorative/regenerative formula was created using her DNA. Seeing how it can repair wounds that are damaged beyond hope, it makes her DNA super valuable.
All of this aside, the bit that I really like is how the show flipped She-Hulk’s origin story. In the comics, she transforms into the Hulk because she was attacked and Bruce donated his blood to save her life.
In the show, it’s the other way around with She-Hulk coming to her mighty cousin’s rescue!
