Jurassic World Dominion was a much-awaited sequel to the Fallen Kingdom after the latter’s colossal success. The trailer for the film had the audience hooked, and there was a promise of new creatures with a reappearance from the OG Jurassic Park characters.
While the story posed numerous questions, it is safe to say that it also answered most of them. However, there was one significant question whose answer seemed a bit ambiguous.
How did Blue, the velociraptor, reproduce independently, without any mating partner? Although Dr. Henry Wu did give an answer to this, it still seemed vague. This is because it has already been given in Jurassic Park. Here’s how:
Blue had the DNA of a monitor lizard known to reproduce on its own. In Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs were brought back using the DNA of an old one stuck in amber. This is essentially how Blue was created with self-reproducing abilities.
At the film’s beginning, we see Blue, the velociraptor, near Owen’s place. However, she’s not on her own and we find out that she also has a child. When Maisie finds this out, she is the first to ask how Blue could reproduce without any mating partner.
The answer is revealed much later when Maisie and Blue’s child, Beta, are captured by Dr. Lewis Dodgson and are stuck at Biosyn. Dr. Henry Wu tells how both Maisie and Beta are the answer to how human DNA can be modified without having adverse effects.
While it can be understood why Beta might be the answer, here’s how Maisie is, too. Her mother Charlotte, also a scientist, did not live an entire life due to her disease but always wanted to have a baby. So, she managed to have a baby on her own as a clone but with one tiny yet significant change.
She managed to modify Maisie’s genome and wiped out the entire disease from her body so that her child could get what she didn’t have. This meant that human DNA could successfully be changed without any side effects.
In fact, it would help in finding the cure for diseases such as AIDS, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and perhaps everything. The possibilities were indeed endless.
While this was a miraculous feat, we, as fans, still had one more question. Do Blue and Beta die or survive at the end of Jurassic World Dominion?
Blue and Beta are very much alive at the end of Jurassic World Dominion. The two are also reunited, all thanks to Owen. When he left to rescue Maisie, he had promised Blue that he would return with her child and he ended up staying true to his words.
It is perhaps one of the most heartwarming scenes in the movie when the two see each other after so much time, and the relationship between them seems symbolic of the relationship between Maisie, Owen, and Claire.
