Producer Nate Moore teases that the events of the latest MCU release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will impact Riri Williams’ story in the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart.
Wakanda Forever begins when the nation of Wakanda is left without a leader or king following the death of their former protector, T’Challa. The people of Wakanda must face this new threat looming over their nation together.
The new film introduces a new Black Panther, along with Namor, Talokan, and Riri Williams aka Ironheart. These characters will surely play their part in the MCU in the near future. However, Ironheart’s story is the only one that will continue next year.
Riri Williams is a young, bright student at MIT who builds an Iron Man-like armor for herself. Unfortunately, she is dragged into the conflict between Talokan and Wakanda and is forced to leave her life at MIT. She makes her first appearance in the MCU in Wakanda Forever.
In an exclusive interview with Screenrant, producer Nate Moore explains how the events of Wakanda Forever will impact Riri Williams’ story in Ironheart. Check out what he said below –
“You think about this woman who was plucked from a relatively normal life as an MIT student, who all of a sudden has encountered an underwater civilization, gone to Wakanda, flown a mech suit, and then is plopped back into a world at MIT? I certainly think it colors how she thinks about what we would call the real world. And I think it might set her on a different course in her show because, boy, it’s going to be hard to go back to doing homework after what she just experienced.”
The events of Wakanda Forever will have a huge impact on Riri, considering how her life changed overnight. She was leading a pretty normal, everyday life as a student at MIT but is suddenly dragged into the midst of a political conflict between Talokan and Wakanda.
She is dragged mainly because of her involvement with Vibranium, which catches the attention of Talokan and Namor. The events of Wakanda Forever change the way Riri views the world in general, so it will be difficult for her to return to her previous life so easily.
Perhaps, in Ironheart, we will see how Riri deals with the impact of the events in Wakanda. She could also find a mentor in Shuri, considering the bond the two formed in the latest MCU film. Shuri could end up having a cameo in the upcoming series!
Riri’s experience in Wakanda will act as a catalyst in her transformation into a full-time hero and inspire her to actively seek adventure and danger. She could also develop an interest in other magical elements within the MCU.
Only time will tell how Black Panther 2’s events will affect Riri Williams’ journey in Ironheart. The series will premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
