Orichalcum in Final Fantasy 16 is an extremely rare material that is found by defeating specific Notorious Marks. It’s used only to craft the best possible sword that you can possibly craft on your first playthrough, the Gotterdammerung, and it doesn’t have any other uses.
Creating Gotterdammerung requires 3x Orichalcum, which means that you’ll need to defeat at least 3 Notorious Marks to put it to use. There are a total of four monsters that drop Orichalcum, but defeating any three will work.
To get Orichalcum in Final Fantasy 16, the following Notorious Marks need to be defeated:
No. | Notorious Mark | When to fight |
The Breaker of Worlds (Atlas) | “Out of the Shadow” Story Quest
Ruin Reawakened (Svarog) | “Things Fall Apart” Story Quest
The Tricephalic Terror (Gorgimera) | “Across The Narrow” Story Quest
The Masterless Marauder (Behemoth King) | After defeating the enemies at Drake’s Spine |
If you want a less aggressive method of obtaining Orichalcum, do the quests mentioned below:
Quest | What to do |
Duty Undying II | Defeat the group of six Fallen Echoes and take down Titus. |
Under New Management II | Defeat all Akashic threats during the quest. |
Even if you go for the quests, you’ll need to defeat at least one of the above-mentioned Notorious Marks to obtain the required amount of Orichalcum. Now with that out of the way, let’s dive into the details of where the bosses are and how to defeat them.
1. The Breaker of Worlds, Atlas
Location: This Notorious Mark is located in the eastern point of Cressida, in Rosaria.
Tips to defeat it:
- Make sure you’re levelled up and well equipped since Atlas is an extremely formidable foe that doesn’t mess around.
- Observe Atlas’ moves carefully and try to get your timing right. Some moves can be easily dodged if you can accurately use Precision Dodge.
- Some of Atlas’ attacks are in quick succession. Use Precision Dodge to avoid them, or simply move from side to side if you’re not sure of the timing.
- Before unleashing everything on Atlas, play as defensively as possible to conserve health. Whenever you get a chance, quickly deliver Eikonic strikes in the midst of performing your combos.
- After Atlas’ health goes below half, it’ll start attacking you by swinging a huge sword across the area. Make sure to time your Precision Dodge correctly to avoid it. Alternatively, you can simply run away far enough to ensure that sword never reaches Clive, but you won’t have time to do that, so Precision Dodge will be your friend in need.
2. Ruin Reawakened, Svarog
Location: This Mark is located South of Mornebrume and Glorieuse, in the Holy Empire of Sanbreque.
Tips to defeat it:
- Svarog is a colossal dragon, so most of its attacks can be hard to dodge. You’ll need to familiarise yourself with its attack patterns.
- Be sure to stock up on health potion, as Svarog’s strongest attack can kill Clive in one shot, which can be quite frustrating.
- Most of its attacks can be evaded and dodged, which is why timing your dodges is the key to beating this dragon. Unleash Clive’s powerful Eikonic abilities whenever you get a chance.
- In the middle of the fight, Svarog will start mixing and matching its moves. Pay attention to what it does so you can time your dodge correctly and evade all of its attacks successfully.
3. The Tricephalic Terror, Gorgimera
Location: This Mark is located south from the Velkroy Desert Obelisk. Keep going along that path and you’ll eventually find it.
Tips to defeat it:
- Gorgimera uses a wide range of magical spells to attack Clive. Keep an eye out for the spelle as its melee attacks can be easily avoided by dodging.
- The creature has a two-part attack. In the first part, it casts The Dragon’s Voice, a spell, and when it does, what you need to do is Phoenix Shift closer to the creature to avoid the electricity. It’s then followed up with The Ram’s Voice, which causes frost spikes to shoot from its body. Simply dodge them, and you should be fine.
- Sidestep as quickly as possible when Gorgimera uses its flamethrower attack to perform some combos on you during that time.
- Gorgimera will also use a Delta attack, in which it’ll summon beams to Clive’s position. What you need to do is simply get out of the radius and attack it using Charged Magic. It’ll use an upgraded version of its Delta attack when its health drops below half, which will summon four Delta Attack circles. At that time, the only thing you need to do is get out of the radius and keep yourself alive.
4. The Masterless Marauder, Behemoth King
Location: This Mark is located near the Vidargraes Obelisk. After reaching it, turn West and keep going along the path, and you’ll notice it.
Tips to defeat it:
- Behemoth King is yet another magic user, but if you’ve already come across Behemoth enemies, then reading its attack patterns won’t be that difficult for you.
- The creature has a move called Maelstrom, in which it summons a massive tornado. You can run from the tornado or dodge it, but there’s a catch. The beast also summons electric sigils with the tornado, which block your view of the creature. During that time, be aware of your surroundings and dodge when needed.
- The Behemoth King’s most powerful attack is the Apocalypse. In this attack, the beast summons two comet rains, ending with a huge meteor drop. Get away as far as possible from the blast radius in time and keep moving across the battlefield; otherwise, you’ll be dead in no time. After it has finished casting the spell, that’s the perfect time to unload everything you’ve got.
Defeating any three of the four bosses will successfully get you the required amount of Orichalcum. But to craft the Gotterdammerung, you’re going to need more than just Orichalcum. To learn what you need to craft the sword and where to find all the required materials, check out this guide.
Damn! No stores found :/
