The latest set photos for the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon revealed new Targaryen characters, played by Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy, in their updated costumes.
The show, which stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, and Eve Best, began principal photography in April. House of the Dragon Season 1 is presently intended for a ten-episode run on HBO beginning in 2022.
Thanks to a new set of photos, fans could finally get a glimpse at Smith’s Daemon Targaryen and Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen in full costume.
Shared by photographer Robert Taylor, the photos were first released in a video on Twitter only to be deleted later on. The photos portray the two characters meeting on a beach, both donning their family’s signature black and red and displaying the stark silver hair of the Targaryen clan.
Set three hundred years prior to the events of GoT, House of the Dragon will illustrate Westeros when it was ruled by the Targaryen family, before the dragons went extinct. George R. R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood (a history of the Targaryen family) will perform as the foundation for the episodes of the series.
House of the Dragon is developed by Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal. However, they have no direct involvement from original series creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Ramin Djawadi, the composer for Game of Thrones, will return to compose for the prequel as well.
There’s no hiding that the prospect of a big-budget Game of Thrones spinoff would previously have been met with near-universal excitement.
However, due to the show’s dramatic decline in popularity after its final season, House of the Dragon has been viewed a bit more tepidly. Nevertheless, if there is a GoT sequel, fans will watch it and HBO sure knows that.
